We booked a table after a lot of reading and understood this is a good place to enjoy a dinner.
Upon arrival we immediately noticed a stressful atmosphere. When introduced to the menu we was informed that it was outdated but a waiter would inform us of today’s specials.
The information was hastily and not very engaging (the waiter talked to other guests and interrupted our questions with talking to colleagues and the table next to us). Upon decision of dishes we wanted some help with the wine, the help We got was more or less “what do you like”. We’re quite young but do not appreciate being met with an attitude that we can’t appreciate a good wine suitable with the food. The recommendation we got was the house wine, we accepted it because we did not know what would match with the food. The recommendation was obviously underneath wanted standard.
The food: For starter we had eggplants with mozzarella, it was decent. Would been a little sharper with some more spices. We also had shrimps with hazelnut. Sounded really interesting but the shrimps was overcooked and a little to salty (partially). But with some work this dish should be a no brainer.
I had a “today’s special” for main. It was a risotto, 50/50 spinach and octopus ink and topped with octopus. The octopus was hard to decide whether it had been frozen or not (probably not). What was the main problem with this dish was that I had no say in the amount of citrus used in the risotto. This led to a dish mostly tasting like a not so good risotto hidden with the flavour of lemon. I would like to have the lemon on the side so that I could choose how much lemon I wanted. I usually like the deeper taste the ink from the octopus gives but in this dish we sadly miss out of it. The risotto rice it self was cooked perfectly.
I might be harsh, but I had high hopes and the pricing should leave me with at least a good feeling of familiar feeling and a relaxing time. Sadly I went home with a feeling of disappointment, both from the food and...

Read moreTucked away in a quiet back street of the Old Town, Marco Polo Restaurant has an understated doorway. There are no intrusive waiters harassing you for your custom, or dated photos showing the same uninteresting, predictable tourist food that is commonly available locally. The original artwork and antique furniture of the vaulted reception room lead to a stairway painted in bold contrasting colours: this is where design and creativity take place. The seating area is in a garden setting with the tasteful décor continuing. The glassware, crockery, cutlery, and lighting have all been carefully selected to enhance the dining experience. Even the plants stimulate the senses with heady aromas. All of this teases your senses before the main highlight: the superb food. The menu offers an exciting selection of dishes with ingredients put together to create enticing, unique dishes not found elsewhere in the area. The charming waiter happily explained the evening's specials, which made choosing our meal even more of a delightful challenge. We opted for the pear and blue cheese salad together with fava for our shared starter: beautifully presented, tasteful, flavoursome. Good choices. Our main selection of pork loin served with vegetable spaghetti and lamb chops with vegetables were both outstanding dishes. The service is welcoming, polite and gracious, but at the same time laid-back and comfortable. I could go on praising Marco Polo Restaurant but I suggest you go their yourself. You will not be...
