The whole experience was ruined by the very very slow service. We have ordered pita bread and tzaziki salad as starters and one see bream fish for main dish. White wine and water.
Drink have come on time.
After 20 minutes I have asked the waiter what is going with our order. The excuse was that for fish it took longer time to prepare. I asked what happend with starters. The excuse was that they intended to bring all things together. Starters came finally after additional 8 minutes. For fish we waited additional 25 minutes. So all together almost an hour for order that usually takes 20 minutes to be prepared. At payment waiter was asking for a tip. I told him that the service was bad and too slow and I don't want to tip them. He stated to argue with me, like, I should not blame it on service but to the kitchen. i told him to discuss this with kitchen not with me. Than he also added that this is just excuse for me not to tip. After that I just have said good bye.
At the same time, I have noticed that several other guests were waiting too long for their orders as well. Next to us there were two families, and they also complained that it takes too much time for their starters to arrive. And when the dishes start to come they were not all at the same time but in some 10 minutes span. At the end they decided to cancel further orders, pay for the starters and leave the restaurant. The waiter was also complaining why he was not tipped.
So even though they noticed that the order is late they don't even try to apologise but rather they start to argue with...
Read moreWe literally stumbled into this restaurant as their back door opens to a tiny street where toursits are rare. One of the waiters saw us and came to present his place. As we continued towards the port, we had info to compare their and other´s prices. By doing so, we were quite convinced that this is a place worth to visit. Our choiche was by no means wrong. The wine leave rolls were as they are actually done in Greece for centuries, so for those who are used to fancy restarurants fake ones, for them they might taste rubbish, but this is authenticity. The fish mixture, on which only in German is stated that it is for two, is for sure for two if not for three, that in case you decide to take entrees. We were a family of four so even my wife had hard time to finish so to say her half of the mix. Son had to leave some of the French fries to the plate as the squid was really big. Taughter was so finished after her kebab that she could not eat her ice cream that was served to children as gratis. When they want to serve you ouzo as gratis, then rather ask for limoncello. Honestly haven´t got so good limoncello never before in my life. They purchase it from local manufacturer. We also tried some other restaurants serving fish, which are highly apprised here, and learned them to be really rubbish in...
Read moreStopped here in Old Town Rhodes for the day on a cruise port stop. There are so many choices of restaurants in this area, and every restaurant entrance comes with someone trying to convince you to have a seat. It can be a little overwhelming, honestly. We weren't sure we were quite ready to sit down, but after walking by twice and talking to Aris with his friendly welcoming personality, we decided this was the place for us. Zizi is located just off the main shopping street. When you see the HUGE tree at the cross street, it's just up to your left. Cute traditional Greek atmosphere, tucked nicely away so you can still people watch but aren't sitting on top of your neighbor. Aris let us have our choice of tables, and we selected the cozy corner booth surrounded by potted olive trees and hanging flower baskets. We shared a bottle of Prosecco, saganaki (oooh so delicious), the mixed meat gyros platter and a Greek appetizer sampler platter. Far too much food for the 2 of us, but it was exactly what we were looking for and at a pretty decent price of 57 euros for everything we had. At the end Aris wanted a photo together and hugged us goodbye like we were old friends. We will have fond memories of this place and hope we have the good fortune to come back and see...
