The hostel is clean and the beds are comfortable, but it’s still not really worth the comparable high price in my eyes.
First of, some of the staff is really unfriendly. Today there was a guy making breakfast in the morning. I saw him preparing some eggs and waited in front of him until he finished.
But instead of taking my order afterwards, he simply continued preparing new eggs and ignored me. Even after I said good morning. I realized that the only way is to tell him by myself exactly what I want.
You don’t have a menu, so you’ll probably have no idea what to take. I just knew it because I saw the other ones. His answer was that he will first prepare the other ones, the vibe was not nice at all.
The breakfast itself is super small, so if you are a young guy, you’ll probably better go directly to a restaurant and eat something that satisfies your stomach.
It has no kitchen, so keep in mind that you will spend a lot on restaurants in addition. Eating in the restaurant of the hostel itself is nothing for a backpacker- the prices are comparable to a regular restaurant in Europe.
Wifi is available, but only works okay in the first hours of the morning when no one else uses it. If you need to work from here, you should buy a SIM card, otherwise you’ll be offline more or less in a 5-10 minutes rhythm.
It’s not a party hostel or something to socialize a lot, but that goes kind of hand in hand with all places I’ve visited in Guatemala so far. At 10 PM, the hostel is kind of completely dead.
The terrace and some staff (the ladies on the reception work super professional) make the whole experience a little better but at the end I must end up by giving only those 2 stars. Compared on what you get, you can find hostels for cheaper prices that beat this one in almost all points. It’s decently not a bad hostel either but it needs improvement in the points...
Read moreI personally would not stay here again. This place was confusing to me. I think the best way to describe it would be like imagining a corny American pop song turning into a fairly upscale hostel and somehow landing in Guatemala
Pros: best hostel beds I’ve probably slept in - fan, light, and shelf were great. The beds were why I stayed more than one night bathrooms were clean some good space to work very friendly staff who are willing to help with a smile! location (near the gym and good food options)
Cons: it is corny - cheesy, terrible pop music all day (I heard the same pop chorus looped over and over again in the restaurant probably 150 times in one breakfast). They play bird sounds on the tv in the morning in a place with tons of birds. Neon signs everywhere it feels far from authentically Guatemalan. From the branding to the decor, it has more of a cruise ship from Florida vibe than an old-town Guatemalan one. It is out of touch staff is so nice it is annoying and overbearing. They walk around monitoring the place so you feel like you’re being watched or something. They interrupt you during phone calls to see if you need anything, when you obviously don’t. People just want a chill environment… for whatever reason the uniforms the staff wears are so over the top and stiff no signage with information on tours, shuttles etc. sometimes it’s nicer to see and read availabilities than to make someone explain everything verbally no local deals - other hostels have discounts at restaurants/gums/tours lack of shower doors make it so that the entire bathroom gets wet not really any community vibe for visitors, outside of the staff being friends with each other no free coffee for guests (should be a given) and no kitchen
Overall it is a pretty nice spot! Just the character is weird and...
Read moreI stayed for one evening. I didn’t have any issues in my private room for 5 but booked only for me. Check-in is at a specific time. Arriving early will get your bags housed in an open room until check-in time. If I booked a shared room, I would have had to pay extra for a towel. Fortunately towels came in my single room. It was pretty spacious for me. This was my third hostel experience in Guatemala and they do it decently (first, El Paredon, and second, Panachajel). The room like the hostel was bright and airy. Centrally located around the corner from many key sites and restaurants. I found the staff super helpful. The wifi was strong. I ordered breakfast the evening before but when I arrived the option was not available. I got toast, jam and some left over fruit - the marmalade was pretty good. They offer a welcome drink during your stay which I got and unfortunately it made me very sick. Hence the one star. Unlike my previous hostel in the cities before, things winded down around 12 midnight. Like I heard nothing. Maybe I came during a quiet time but nothing kept me awake. The rooftop offers nice views in the morning and evening. Some individuals were completing yoga up there. I could have been tired. Seems like a lot of backpackers frequent this hostels. Mostly a younger crowd but I had zero issues. I wanted to try another hostel but they were sold out for my dates. If I visit again, I’ll try the other spot just to try it but this was a very good experience.
