This was one of the first restaurant in Antigua that I️ was impressed by. They have added a few steps of service to their offerings that put them a step above the other finer offerings in Antigua. From the time you walk into the door you automatically feel welcome and as if you are in your eccentric uncles home for a dinner party. The decor is unique and welcoming which makes the perfect ambiance especially in the evening when the candles are lit.
My most recent trip was with my husband for my birthday. Our server was excellent and they have done a great job training their employees to always be available but not overbearing. I️ love the touch of having the hand towels, a table that joined after us asked what they were for and it made me wonder if this is the only place in Antigua that offers this Japanese tradition. I️ loved it.
The food was fantastic and came quickly for what I️ was expecting. I️ would go back every single day just for their chocolate mousse.
They are also an incredible destination for a larger dinner party or event as they can set the tables inside to be one large and long table. I️ greatly enjoy sitting outside next to the pool and enjoying the sounds of...
Read moreLovely courtyard, very pretty place. Romantic atmosphere. Excellent service.
I had a generous and delicious sangria, and started with a very nice leek soup. As my entree I had the medallions of beef with pears and Roquefort sauce. The meat, pears, and sauce were delicious. The glazed carrots on the side were also good. The plain potatoes could have used a little something, and I didn't need the grilled green onions on the side (so hard to eat). My husband had the homemade panzotti, and it was delicious. We also got the homemade bread, which was good, that came with a dish of half garlic butter and half chile butter.
The only disappointment was the crepe suzette for dessert. I love crepe suzette, and normally I love nuts, but they did not go well together. The crepe seemed to be filled with an almond butter and the orange sauce was infused with chopped nuts or nut butter too. Ruined it! When they saw we didn't eat it, they did offer to bring something else, and took it off the bill when we said we were just ready to go, so that was nice.
We will probably go back. I want to try the other homemade pastas, and have some...
Read moreMy new wife and I recently got married in Antigua, and we decided on Welten to host our wedding dinner. They were very gracious and prompt with all their communications prior to the wedding, and even offered to make our wedding cake for us at no extra charge (!) The day before the wedding Nidia, Welten's dinner coordinator, suggested we come to the restaurant with a traditional wedding parade and a "torito", basically fireworks. Our wedding parade through the streets of Antigua going to the restaurant was one of the highlights of the week. And yes, they set off fireworks for us.
The decorations in the restaurant and the food itself were superb. Even though we only had about 35 guests, there were at least 6 or 7 servers, so service was always prompt and top notch. The food, the parade/reception, the added surprises from the restaurant all made for a magical evening.
In sum, I highly recommend Welten for anyone hosting a large event, or if you just was a beautiful romantic...
