Seen better days… As one of the more pricey restaurants in Antigua, Epicure had worked up a pretty good reputation in Antigua throughout the years. My visits in the past were no disappointment, either. Let's say - nothing that would make me rejoice in excitement, but the dishes were quality raw materials, and decent prepping, decent attendance by the waiters etc. My last visit compeletely destroyed that perception. We were a group of several people, and three of us had a chicken dish. Myself I had the Gordon bleu chicken. Setting teeth into the merchandise left me with disbelief. Was it the way of spicing? Another ingredient? Just my perception? No- it was the chicken being like the cheapest mass farming quality, only frozen over and thawed again a few times. Then prepped to look good. But the meat taste was plain horrible, with fibrous-watery consistence and a metallic side taste. Had it not been for being tied up in a conversation and already running very late on the day, I had returned it. I left like 80% of it behind. My companions had exactly the same experience with their chicken - one said that whatever street corner chicken in Antigua was better than that. However, and that is the only reason why this is not a 1-star qualification: The other dishes served to the group were OK, according to...
Read morePicture this, you wander off a shuttle looking for a bathroom. You wander in Epicure (it's the nicest place around by far, with a delicious bakery in front that initially drew us in). The lady at the front is so nice, you say "Si" and she takes you to the back where there is an OASIS of a restaurant. My brother I sat at the back, under some sort of beautiful palm tree and ate maybe the best pizza I have ever eaten. It had pepperoni, onion, mushrooms, and tomatoes and it was not expected in Antigua and a coke. We got a small soup before the pizza and were treated with a small cocoa chocolate at the end, SO UNEXPECTED. The waitress was perfection. The owner, John, came and spoke with my brother and I and he was such a wonderful man. He spoke with wisdom and integrity and was really a great man to have bless me with his words. Our server was equally as special and I wished I had gotten her name. We stayed and enjoyed ourselves for longer than expected and felt welcomed the whole time. 10/10 would recommend to EVERYONE IN GUATEMALA! Thanks,...
Read moreAbsolutely wonderful experience here! The food, the abience, the people Someone recommended we have lunch there and it was so delightful! We were a diverse group of eaters (children, adults, dietary restrictions) and everyone was able to find something delicious to order. The meals were so good! We sat in the beautiful enclosed courtyard area which truly highlights the natural beauty of Antigua.
We were celebrating my birthday and my hubby selected a perfect cake from the bakery. Not only was it picture perfect, it was a heavenly light memorable coconut cake. If i could, I would have it for every brithday!
We only had one more day in Antigua after our first visit but we managed to stop in for coffee, pastries, and sandwiches to go! I would have loved knowing of it sooner in our stay
I found the pricing to be great for the quality of food and service. In house made pasta, beautiful pastries, lovely bar and terrace, deli and cheese selection...I wouldn't expect to pay fast food prices for the curated choices...
