The apple Tarte Tatin is horrible- Terribly sweet :/ The pastry tasted old (?) like it had been refrigerated or kept in the freezer- It did not taste freshly made. When I worked as a pastry Chef we made these tarts daily.
The apple Tarte was served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. *I suspect the tarte was microwaved since the pastry was chewy and rubbery. And a generous drizzle of caramel sauce, which is totally unnecessary on a dessert with caramelized apples.
But worst of all … there were just 7 measly slices of apple on the entire Tarte. 🤦🏻♀️
Presentation was also a mess- the dessert was topped off with two slices of strawberry like little bunny ears.
When my server picked up my dessert plate he did not ask if I enjoyed the dessert. Maybe it was because I only ate the bits of apple on top and ice cream.
If this had happened in New York I would have said something- but here in Guatemala it’s not worth the trouble to complain. FYI * I’m Guatemalan.
Overall: Not worth the Q55 price. I’ve had better desserts at Starbucks.
The space is beautiful, unfortunately the music is way too loud. The staff is friendly.
I would recommend this place for drinks. The food looks interesting and the...
Read moreThe restaurant has a great atmosphere and the staff was friendly. It sets the mood for a romantic setting. However, the food left a bitter taste. I ordered a lomito with a potato base. I ordered my meat 3/4's, but when I started cutting, the meat was tough and was more around the rare side, which left me disappointed. The mashed potatoes were ok, but not sublime.
The wine my wife and I had was great and complimented the little steak I was able to eat.
We were served a chocolate dessert which was pretty good. Very rich.
I give it a 3/5 considering the fact that each plate was around Q185-200 plus wine and dessert, but the food was, unfortunately, not to my liking or what I asked for. The wine and the chocolate dessert was good, but the service was excellent, so that's why I give it some bonus points. I might go back to give it a...
Read moreAfter a couple minutes strolling around the beautiful UNESCO site, I quickly Googled the best restaurants in Antigua, and weirdly enough, a French-inspired restaurant came up, and it was nearest my way so I checked it out.
The place looks chic and quaint with the nice touch of preserved architecture. The food, though, was pretentious. I had a brie salad, which was decent, but the mushroom tenderloin was overreaching. I couldn't taste nor see the porcini mushrooms, smoked pancetta and crispy bacon and was told it was all in the sauce. I thought it was just meat juice reduction in butter, with pepper and salt.
Overall, it was hardly a pass for me but the lounge area looked cosy and inviting. Maybe best make it a café than a restaurant, and they could actually highlight the local Guatemalan coffee. But then again, it is...
