Went in without looking through the menu too much, but got excited cause it was a chef based restaurant. Got sat right away and they were so kind to accommodate us and turned down the music on the back patio where no one else was seated yet. The server was kind and came back enough to check on things. We got a burger and fish and chip dishes. The prices are a little steeper than other similar places but maybe we are paying for the chef’s status? The burger itself was the driest burger in Budapest (others have been juicy and made of Hungarian beef), but it wasn’t bad enough to send back either. The fish was over-battered, but maybe that is how the English chef prefers it? The chips were the driest on the planet- we couldn’t figure out if they were reheated and that’s why they were like cardboard? A McDonald’s fry would have been better and that’s saying a lot. We brought it up to the server when they asked how our food was and he just said, ok, sorry. Didn’t offer to take it off the bill, throw in a comped drink or even get the manager. They did offer popcorn? Like what, who wants popcorn after eating/trying to make up for poor food? Quite unfortunate that they wouldn’t take care of your customers, when it’s a chef owned company and the food expected at bare minimum wasn’t even average. Lastly, I about slipped on the floor in the bathroom cause the soap dispenser leaks. I brought it to the staffs’ attention and they said they knew about it already, that someone had already mentioned it. Well then why hadn’t it been cleaned up or a sign put up? Can’t imagine having customers slip on concrete floors and getting head injuries is good for business either. Overall, disappointed on my last night in Budapest with a...
Read moreI usually don't write a reviews, only if extremely satisfied or opposite. This restaurant fits later... First lady which took an order was nice and polite, second one bringing the food and processed payment not so much... As many of other visitors, I believe, we decided to eat there as per Jamie Oliver's name. Turns out this place is worse than a classic tourist trap. Prices above average for something they dare to call food. Ribs in sauce comes without sauce, so you need to order it separately and pay for it?! My son order a burger and we told lady more the once only if not spicy. Of course, they brought the spicy one which he hardly eat at all. My wife ordered some fish and chips. Left it without eat a second bite. Fish was probably thrown in the oil not warm enough, so it was full of it. Disgusting. Cannot even remember one little thing which was ok. And cream on the top, lady which we made payment to had asked us to enter the payment amount by ourselves. Explaining service charge/tip is not included. As experienced similar way in some other EU capitals, we decided to ignore the food quality as waiter cannot be responsible. So, had entered a higher amount in the POS machine. Guess what? Receipt stated 14.5% service charge had been already added to our food bill! To summarize, please don't let Jamie name fool you like it fooled us. This place was the worst experience we have had in our 4 days in Budapest buy a high margin. And we had eat outside...
Read moreGross! We ordered 2 fish and chips + sweet potatoes.
Now, I've had my share of fish and chips, this one takes the cake as the worst ever: The batter layer was way too thick, at least 1.5mm, you can see the photos for yourselves. The size of the fish compared to the batter is laughable. No proportions.
The oil felt like it was old and used, it just had the taste of something else swimming in it prior.
The French fries are INDUSTRIAL, no less, kind of embarrassing for chef chain restaurant.
We ended up eating only the fishes and put the large greasy batter layers aside.
Sweet potato fries were fine. I don't mind overpriced places as long as I get good value for the money, but this one's mediocre at best.
Once we asked for the bill, the waitress asked if everything was good, we mentioned the above, she went and down came the supervisor who just apologized and asked if we wanted to order a desert or coffee. 0 service consciousness. Why would a disappointed customer would want to spend more???
I'm probably going to get the copy-pasted apologetic reply, but unfortunately nothing will change unless people stop showing up in these kind of places. On to the next customer I...
