This places is a MUST-GO!! It's some of the best coffee I've ever had in my entire life. We went there every single day on our week long trip to Budapest. They are very passionate and therefore serious about their coffee, which means that they don't compromise; they only sell coffee the way they think it's best! That means no sugar in your espresso based coffees (because milk is already sweet) and no milk in your drip coffees (because you want to taste the fruity flavours from the beans)
You won't be able to order a cappuccino, latte, cortardo and so on because these guys knows that there's only ONE good way of steaming the milk (which has been misunderstood since the 80/90's when cappuccino became more popular in rest of Europe, up until now where some places thinks that a cappuccino needs this big fluffy/soapy foam on top)
At kontakt you chose between a single or double espresso, and a small or big milk. That way you can chose the amount of milk you'd like compared to the amount of coffee.
The prices are very fair i'd say! :-)
AND the service is very very nice!
All together this place is simple but amazing and valuable to Budapest!
Also it's just next to a nice breakfast place where they have a deal that people can come pick up their coffee at Kontakt and then bring it to the other...
Read moreI think I haven’t given 2 stars to a speciality coffee before but after todays experience I think it was necessary. I’ve visited this place 4 times in total and on the first 2 occasions I ordered “Iced oat cappuccino” for take away, you can see the ice oat cappuccino in the attached photos. However on my 3rd trip suddenly I was told that they don’t make it (well well well, I got iced oat cappucino previous 2 times) and they can offer me Nitro brew latte or some stuff like that. I was like sure let’s do it no problem.
Today on my 4th visit I was there with my brother and a friend. I asked for an iced cappuccino again because I thought that may be there wasn’t ice on the previous time. But that wasn’t the case, apparently new ridiculous house rules has been passed and their only “cold” drinks are “espresso tonic and nitro brew or whatever that thing was” my brother asked for iced espresso because thats literally espresso shot with an ice cube inside. Not a big deal, right? We were told that it wasn’t possible.
I have been to many specialty coffee places in Munich, Budapest and DFW. Never faced with such a ridiculous house rule regarding with “ice cubes”. I had very high expectations but this kinda ruined the...
Read moreKontakt is an excellent small coffee shop in Budapest where a lovely barista makes one of the best flat whites in the city.
Specialty coffee shop Kontakt is coveniently located in the centre of Budapast not far from Déak Ferenc tér. It is a bit hidden away in a little alley, but easy enough to find.
When I walked in, the place reminded me a little bit of a lovely coffee shop I visited in Vienna a few months ago.
The design is quite minimal and simple with wooden chairs, benches and tables. That style might not appeal to everyone, but I liked it.
During my week in beautiful sunny Budapest I've been twice at Kontakt. I really enjoyed their coffee. The flat white had a strong taste and there was something a bit unusual, perhaps it was the milk. I forgot to ask where they get the beans from, but whatever roastery they work with, it's tasty coffee.
And something particularly useful if you explore Budapest as a tourist, Kontakt also offers free wifi.
The barista is very friendly, the music cool and the place just ticked all the boxes for me. Kontakt is definitely one of my favourite specialty coffee shops...
