I am changing my 5 star review. We have frequently visited this restaurant for the past few years. We always had a great experience. Unfortunately, this last time was a very poor experience.
We ordered 4 dishes (2 sushi rolls, 1 sashimi, 1 rice bowl). The dishes arrived 1-by-1, not together. The first dish arrived 45 minutes from us sitting down. We spent 1.5 hours until we were able to get all our food. To shorten the already way too long wait time, I decided to pay at the counter instead of at the table, where I noted my disappointment with the service & kitchen.
The Eel roll was spicy (which was not spicy in the past). I asked if there was a change in ownership because both the service was exceptionally poor (I had to tell our waiter what dishes we were still waiting on, on two separate occasions) and the kitchen/chef was super slow. I was told it is the same owner, but a new chef was going through training (this was not too clear).
Its a shame really because we really liked this restaurant. When I complained about the poor service and the food not being up to par as before, I was told "sorry" and I was handed the bill in full (20.000 Ft for 2 people).
This restaurant is by all accounts at a premium price level. I think it is reasonable to expect great service and food. Unfortunately, the service did not even reach a satisfactory level and the food was unlike what we have come to expect from this restaurant
I will be dining for...
Read moreMe and my wife found this place accidentally just walking around near parliament! The exterior of the restaurant was very intriguing (all those white paper lanterns, posters in Japanese). It looked very authentic comparing to what I saw on tv about Japan. This is a small restaurant with very friendly staff. Did not expect to find such a jewel in Budapest! They have sake and beer straight from japan and all ingredients they use in dishes are high quality. Sushi master is from Japan and he was very kind. I had the opportunity to sit on the bar and talk to him, see his mastery, and I have never been so impressed! I’ve never eaten such delicious sushi. I really recommend to try salmon sushi roll. Just try! Also, we ordered takoyaki and yakitori, which were excellent! I was surprised when the chef treated us with tamagoyaki for free. Mmm... very tasty! The prices can be high for someone… but hey, for your money you will get invaluable emotions and a slice of Japan right on your plate. I was amazed when we were leaving the restaurant, the chef, the owner and the staff came out to say goodbye to us. Now, I'm a bit jealous of the people of Budapest, because in my country there are no such small authentic Japanese restaurants :) . Next time I'll be in Budapest, this will be my №1 in list places to visit! Many thanks to all the staff of the restaurant for delicious food and...
Read moreI’ve been to this place many times, and I almost every time eat the grilled sushi plate, but this time the sushi rice was dry. I complained at the waiter, and went back to my table. The chef came out, I think the manager came out, no one came to me, no one talked to me, I just heard them talking about me and the chef keep saying the rice is perfect. So I went to them and brought my dish with the food on it. He kept insisting he is right and he kept insisting he wants to redo my plate when I told him many times I don’t want it anymore. He kept forcing it, so I let him do it. I waited again for the new dish to be ready and the rice of course was still dry. Why wouldn’t be? Same batch of badly made morning rice in the afternoon. I know it’s morning made because that was my first question to the chef and he told me it was made in ghe morning. I ate only the meat I paid the full price. I found the chef’s behavior unprofessional. A very bad experience after all because I loved the place, but this time it was very low quality. Even the chashu ramen was not as good as usual, but at east that was okay. Sad to see the quality dropped so much. I might not go there anymore, but if I do, I deffinitely ask for a taste of the sushi rice before I...
