Caffé Gian Mario — Restaurant in Budapest

It was recommended to us by a local we meet in a Vinyl shop. Coming from a very small town in Australia which is predominantly Italian descent I rarely do Italian restaurants as once you have had real Italian food made by passionate people the restaurants don't usually make the grade. But we thought we'd help these 2 Italians who came from Italy to Budapest to open their restaurant a go. Firstly they did not need our help as it was packed! Lol tables inside and out. The decor is very shabby retro. Not refined but like you'd expect if walking into a restaurant in the home land. The food was ok. We shared a bruschetta. It was really nice. Very flavoursome. My pasta was a little too Al'dente. The sauce- ragu was something I'd expect from an Englishman. Red without the flavour or soul. The pizza of the gentleman next to us looked amazing so maybe their strength is in their pizza. The carbonara was again ok. It seemed to be missing the bite of a really good Parmesan cheese. My pasta had no cheese. The ravioli was again ok. Chocolate icecream on leaving was delicious. The lemonade drink I'm sure was cordial. The staff very busy, very good. Wish I remembered more Italian. A Reliable Restaurant for Classic Flavor When it comes to dining out, sometimes all we crave is a simple meal with flavors that remind us of home. In those instances, a restaurant that offers normal taste can be a comforting choice. Recently, I had the opportunity to visit a restaurant that fits this description and here's my review. Atmosphere: The atmosphere of this restaurant is casual and welcoming, with a cozy interior and comfortable seating arrangements. While it may not have a luxurious or extravagant ambiance, it provides a relaxed setting for a casual meal or a quick gathering with friends.also they have table out sidethat you can seat and smoke. Service: The service at this restaurant was commendable. The staff members were friendly, attentive, and prompt in taking orders and catering to any additional requests. The menu was not explained well, but the wait times for both food and beverages were reasonable. Food: The restaurant's menu consisted of a variety of dishes that were Italian , bruschetta was 5/5 pizza 2/5 lasagnia 5/5...

We were deliberately overcharged here which ruined an otherwise great, authentic Italian meal!

(Update: the owner is being dishonest his reply - they are the only Italian restaurant on that part of the street - it was definitely them)

We enjoyed great food and the owner was there and treated us like family.

We paid the bill without really checking (our fault), but when we got home we noticed it looked a bit high. Checking the menu, which we found online, we noticed they’d charged about 20-25% extra for every item.

We called to try clear it up. They said the owner wasn’t in. We called back later, this time they just laughed and hung up on us.

Luckily we called our credit card company, sent them the bill and the menu and got refunded... so no loss for us.

But people... be careful and check your bill...
