Soo, I do not normally write reviews on restaurants, but this one left me a bitter taste so I have to share my thoughts (which of course are subjective, buut maybe my review will lead you to another restaurant that you will enjoy more). We decided to go here because we saw the tasting menu and even though it was expensive ( aprox 22000 HUF per person meaning 53€) it did not necessarily bothered us since we are fans of it and we get the chance to try new things. Well, I can't speak for other things on the menu but I do not recommend the tasting menu. The butter was bland, the gulas came in a bowl they serve at one random community cantine with one pack of spicy sauce like you receive at McDonalds, the dessert very mainstream, like all the "artificial tasting" cakes you find in random pastry shops. The carpaccio was good and the main okay. So I do not recommend the tasting menu at all, the dishes are not worth the price. The staff, oh, the staff. Not nice. Not worthy of the 14%!!! Service fee ( which ofc we did not notice since it was written in small letters beneath the menu). When I entered I asked the waiter how long does the tasting menu last, since we have been to different restaurants, including Michelin ones and it's an entire experience and we wanted to know, since we were with our baby. He looked at me like I was stupid and he didn't know what i was talking about. Getting over that, the dishes were not presented, the waiter passed and asked a forced how was the meal. And do not think the restaurant was full. There were 3 tables occupied. I can understand that maybe they did not liked that we came with a baby, but our daughter was really nice and she ate peacefully and we did not make a mess, but really, 14% service fee?? For what? So, after the novel I wrote, some conclusions: unpleasant staff very expensive food for the quality bland and unworthy of that price tasting menu exaggerated service fee of 14% which goes unnoticed at first glance

We left with a bitter taste, but we own it since it was us who chose that restaurant, but I would not recommend it to anyone. There are many, many other nicer, tastier places. I got the feeling they pretended to be a high end restaurant with the tasting menu, the prices, the athmosphere, but they are far far from...

This is a unique and interesting restrurant and quite frankly applaud to person who though of it and went ahead make a dream real.

In the city centre of Budapest literally "next street" to the main shopping street, youll find Urban Betyr. The venue has both capacity for out and indoor seating, but outdoor is limited so guess you need to pre-book it.

Immediately when you enter the restaurant, you get confused and intrigued by the different and mixed by various accessories or tool, that dosent fit together.

When you come here the most important is to explore the ground level, what it's not advertise outside is that on the ground level is a sort of museum, a homage to the Hungarian culture . A mini museum with food . There is no seperat cost attached to this, have a look and explore and learn about Hungarian culture though lunch or dinner.

The food was good. I love the home made lemonade a bit bitter but really good. The smoked haering as a starter was delicious, the main some typical Hungarian dish and the dessert ... Which I'm not really sure what it is as we were running out of time, we didn't think to ask about it.

Staff are friendly and I might imagine they get tired of all the question relating to the...

Disappointing.

First the good. The grilled foi gras was fantastic. In fact, it was probably too good, because it raised our expectations only to be dashed by the next course. The service was also quite good. They were attentive and quick to respond to any requests.

Then the bad. I ordered the lamb skewers. They were okay, not great, but good enough. However, they came with potatoes that tasted strongly of fish. They said that's how the dish is supposed to taste. I personally think it was gross. Who wants fishy potatoes with lamb? They did offer to replace it and I got the beef stew. That was also disappointing. The beef chunks were inconsistently cooked. Two of the pieces were soft and tender. The rest were tough and chewy. The taste was not anything amazing either. It came with potatoes and a salad that were both forgettable.

Overall a complete waste of time and money. For a restaurant this expensive, I really expected excellent food and the food was sub-mediocre.

Skip it and go...

Second visit to Urban Betyar with big dissapointment, I took my friends for a special dinner celebration and they all left with bitter taste, unfortunately the restaurant is not as it was 2 years a go,food was still tasty but service not as good as I expected, we been lefted alone the whole night even when we needed something they pretend not to see us, restaurant was completely empty we was the only table inside. The waiter offer me a wine tasting before I ordered my wine, which I did not like so I choose a different wine, in the end of the bill he charge me for the sip of wine, I never seen this before usually if they offer you a sip of wine to try before order is not priced, ha ha not the case here. What can I say? I won't recommend this place anymore to friends and family and I won't be visiting it again.we left a food review for the chef I hope at least he managed to read it.

The restaurant is definitely worth visiting at least for the experience alone. It's not just a dining place, it has a concept and well elaborated design upstairs as well as extensive space for a folk museum downstairs. While waiting for your order you can wander downstairs checking all the museum exhibits, which are truly interesting. These are not boring bones of God knows whome, but a representation of Hungarians houses, clothing, life styles back in the days. I can't say much about the food, as I had a coffee and a desert in here, however my friends weren't completely happy, so dur to them minus one start. Staff seemed to be fine, however occasional smile wouldn't hurt.
