Possibly the worst service of my life.
First off, my girlfriend asked for a natural wine and the waiter acted like we were idiots, saying not only do they not have it nowhere in Budapest does. If you’ve been here for more than a day you’ll know that’s categorically false.
I then ordered a mango lassi and the waiter brought me a “mango latte” instead which isn’t even a real drink never in my wildest dreams would I imagine someone would order a “MANGO LATTE”. What this disgusting concoction is I have no idea. When I pointed out the mistake, he had the nerve to blame me saying I wasn’t clear enough and he could not understand (I’m a native English speaker) but understand if things can be lost in translation I cannot imagine how someone could think I would want a MANGO LATTE clearly an international jab. He kept arguing until someone in our group suggested switching it and he finally agreed with an eye roll and a half hearted “I guess.” I then overheard him laughing about it with the other staff confirming that this was intentional. To top it off, I was still charged for his mistake.
In addition - We’d been talking about how excited we were to try dessert all night, but when we went to order, the waiter scoffed at us and said the kitchen was closed and had been for quite some time. He had the audacity to make it seem like we were crazy for wanting desert. A decent waiter would’ve let us know that the kitchen is closing soon and asked us if we wanted to order desert, especially since we’d mentioned looking forward to it early in the meal. The waiter also stared at the women in my group and other employees inappropriately the whole evening so he definitely had the time to ask if we wanted desert.
On top of everything, rice wasn’t served with our curries and was an additional $10 completely unheard of at an Indian restaurant.
When we finally asked for the check and inquired if they took American Express the waiter scoffed again like it was dumb to even ask. The service was so bad that it made me wish tipping culture was a thing here just so I could leave nothing for this guy.
This was hands down the worst service I’ve ever had. If you care about decent service avoid this place like the plague….
I’d like to mention that one of the other waiters and the hostess were very friendly but whoever our waiter was has absolutely no business in this industry.
If the management cares to look into this situation and possibly make some NEEDED changes I’m attaching a...
Read moreNew years Eve, were booked in for 6 weeks. Really looking forward to it.... decor is updated. Some interesting cover band versions of well know songs on the stereo blasting and leopard print wallpaper, was super exited. We got off to a bad start here at Bombay Budapest though...... I love a pint of beer with a curry but unfortunately beer is only served in thimbles here, 0.3 or 0.4 L (half pints). Hardly the type of drink to satisfy you after a vindaloo 2nd we thought, let's kick things off with some poppadoms, but we're quickly thwarted only to be present with a range of perculier starters at 20 - 25 euro plus, which felt a tad steep for a starter, perhaps gaugy. Not to be too upset we moved onto mains. OK not to worry we'll get some curry going, it will be OK. No indication as to how spicy they were and the waitress did not know, various curries covered in Italian cheese though. No Kormas, Jalfrezi's or Madras, lots of lobster and lambshank types. I ended up ordering a vegetarian curry, from a slim choice of 3 - 4 actual curries, which I asked if I could have with chicken, that request was denied. My wife enjoyed hers which was a bland chicken curry topped with cheese. Cheese again.... both curries were bland, I am sure the people of Mumbai would be devastated to know such food was being served up in vain. The breads and rice were of good quality, no complaints. We shared a peculiar cheesecake for desert, which had a lot of fancy fruit on top, but was a bit like this restaurant all show, limited substance and a bit bland. I've been for hundreds of Indian meals in UK, India, US and across Europe, this for me was by some stretch the worst. Just when I thought I can move on with my night.and chalk this up to experience, i was hit with a mandatory 15% service charge, which the waitress informed me was mandatory and could not be removed. If you've ever had indian food before and like it, give this a big swerve and stick to the goulash. If you haven't, you might really like it. (I regularly write reviews and I am sorry...
Read moreIt was a mixed experience for us at this highly rated restaurant. First let’s start with the drinks- Some cocktails were excellent & showed some interesting creativity - though some of the more traditional/cultural Indian classic drinks such as “aam panna” were far from authentic - though beautifully served I will give them that! Starters - we went for the veggie starters - and the pav bhaji and beetroot croquettes were quite good - especially the latter - accompanied by some delicious chutneys and again tastefully served. Mains - I think this is where the ball drops for this place - we tried three vegetarian dishes- dum aloo (potato dish), smoked aubergjne (baingan Bharta) and vegetarian biryani. The aubergjne and the potatoes had the same tomato sauce base but more surprising was that there was a sauce in these dishes as both these dishes are meant to be on the drier side and definitely not have a red tomato sauce (Google images of these dishes to see what I mean). Some of our friends ordered the Chettinad chicken and chicken tikka and thought the former trumped the latter. The Nargisi Kofta (vegetarian dumplings in a cashew saffron sauce) was a nice dish though the sauce was maybe a little too much. The naans- were well done (so looked like they came from a proper tandoor oven) though were maybe a little on the thinner side. Decor was nice and classy, service nice and with smiling faces but time of food preparation was a little long - I think we wouldn’t have minded the timing as long as we were made aware along the way so we could set our expectations accordingly. If you take all this into account and then factor in the price - which is on the higher end - one can easily question the value for money! I guess I might venture here again but probably just stay for the starters and drinks and skip the mains altogether :). Which is a lost opportunity for the restaurant. Hopefully they can prove me wrong in the future....
