A sudden plan for lunch with colleagues, that too a vegetarian place close to office a difficult choice. Thanks to Zomato we were able to quickly narrow down to Green Theory and took a short cab ride to the restaurant.
Green Theory is a vegetarians paradise, located in a quaint street off residency road, you can hardly miss the big billboard when passing through. Owing to its name, it is a well decorated place with lots of greenery.
Nestled among nature, this green place had a mix of indoor and outdoor seating. After checking out both the options, we decided to take the best advantage of the lovely weather that day, and choose to be seated outdoors.
With a tinge of hunger growing, we quickly decided on who is having what, and agreed to do family style sharing of starters and some mains.
For me, the chilled Avocado soup, seemed very interested and decided to start my meal with that. It is the gazpacho style soup, with the flavour of Avocado made mild by the cream and the rightly strong punch of the roasted cumin. A lovely start to what's to come next, the thin, runny but creamy soup did increase my appetite. And, thanks for those lovely buns served alongside, it made a wonderful dip onto the cold soup and into my palate and disappeared in seconds.
The Babycorn and potato cigars came nicely part dipped in a bed of mayonnaise, another excellent dish disappeared in seconds.
For the mains we had ordered a lot of different dishes to be shared and enjoyed as a group. The service was decent and our dishes started arriving. Pasta in creamy mushroom sauce, a plain old Margarita pizza, a cottage cheese sizzler, and a veg moussaka, was too heavy for a bunch of 8. The portions were decent to be shared and the food rich and creamy.
The pasta was beautifully cooked al dente, drenched in a mild creamy mushroom sauce, it could have done better with a little more of the mushroom punch. The plain old margarita was an excellent choice with a hint of basil here and there, made it for an interesting flavour punch.
The Sizzler, wasn't sizzling much, however the indianised flavours definitely compensated for the lack of sizzle.
The Veg Moussaka was a surprise with excellent flavours of the veggies coming through, in spite of the cheesy bake. I would have personally preferred with a little less cheese, but hey that is just my personal preference.
After this heavy meal, we still wanted to stuff ourselves with some of the desserts displayed in their inhouse bakery.
We opted for the Chocolate Oreo and Blueberry cheesecake [and off course shared them] , both excellent choices. While the chocolate oreo looked beautiful, the slightly ugly blueberry cheesecake came out as the winner, in terms of flavour, & taste of the blueberry punch and the mild cheese hit.
Overall, a great place to visit not just for the veggies even for the non-veggies like me, to eat delicious veg dishes made to perfection (well almost). When I left the place, what kept me longing my palate for more is the chilled Avocado soup. Do try and let me know, how well you loved...
Read moreI was thrilled to find such a vegan friendly establishment in Bangalore! Because this was a place I was really keen to sup at, I’ll take some time to break into all the aspects of my experience at Green Theory.
Ambience: 5/5 The ambience at Green Theory is something nobody can find fault with. It’s green, clean and inviting. Eating amidst the trees, plants and sunshine, is a big selling point of this restaurant.
Service: 3/5 I have to say that the service wasn’t anything exceptional. The wait for the food was long and the waiters weren’t well informed about the items on the menu, and had to keep going to the kitchen to affirm things several times.
Food: 4/5 Some items were wonderful and some were passable.
We ordered a custom Penne Pasta in Red and White Sauce and it was fantastic. The balance of spices and seasonings were perfect and the portions were generous and plentiful.
We also ordered an All in One Sizzler which was just okay. The serving size was very liberal, which was great, but the sizzler dish it was served on was unfortunately not, and we had parts of the sizzler spilling over the sides. The cutlet was seasoned too strongly with what appeared to be garam masala and though individual elements of the dish were tasty on their own, they didn’t meld well as a single, cohesive dish.
We also had a Fungi Flatbread, but we had a Veganised version of it. The dish was delicious, albeit a bit sweet, which was a little unpleasant. The slightly tangy sundried tomatoes were the star of the dish, and the sparingly used cashew cheese was also delectable (when I was able to get pieces of it). Using tofu in the place of cheese was a clever and thankfully tasty idea. Although the dish could’ve truly shone if seasoned more generously, it still managed to be a scrumptious dish.
We had a slice of Chocolate Indulgence cake for dessert. True to its name, it IS indulgent and it IS chocolatey. This cake was an absolute delight! Perfectly moist, creamy and spongey. Each slice is almost gargantuan and and is generously blanketed in a smashing ganache. The hazelnuts were also the perfect touch to this indulgent masterpiece.
After the cake, I had great expectations from the Chocolate Tart, which unfortunately weren’t met. The Tart was too sweet, and aside from the chocolatey texture, I wasn’t really able to discern any actual chocolate flavour because the sweetness was so overpowering. The crumble crust didn’t add much depth to the flavour either, and overall, it was an underwhelming dish.
Conclusion: All in all, I did enjoy my experience at Green Theory and truly loved some dishes. I’m excited to go back and try a few more, because the rest of the menu also seemed...
Read moreWe went here for dinner, let me start off by saying I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.
We were seated at a table which was not cleaned at all, food crumbs everywhere and spills all over the table(Note that the place was not crowded so it's not like previous customers just left). After a while someone came to clean the table. I would also like to add that there are a lot of mosquitos and flies, we asked for a mosquito coil but none of the staff seemed to care, we gave up on asking after a while.
For starters we got a couple of soups which we wanted divided into 2 (which is chargeable and was not notified to us) and the pull apart bread which is apparently their speciality. The food was not worth the price, the soup was bland and flavourless, the bread was no different, absolutely nothing special. For the main course we ordered 6 dishes, this is where I'll talk about the service. It was pathetic. In any other restaurant the dishes we ordered would have arrived at most 15 min after placing the order, it took them 30 min to get 5/6 dishes which were all mediocre and overpriced. We asked the waiter about the 6th dish and he said it's coming, 10 min later still no sign of the dish, we ended up telling them to cancel it and give us the bill as we were fed up with the experience and just wanted to leave. Just after we told them to cancel, the waiter went into the kitchen to bring the dish, by this time we had already finished the remaining 5 dishes and made it clear that there was no point in bringing the dish now as we had already finished our meal and everything had to be brought out at once. In the end they agreed to cancel the dish and we left.
TLDR: The overall experience was terrible. The service was extremely slow and there seems to be a clear lack of planning and organisation. The food was bland and overpriced. There was a clear lack of hygiene as the table we were seated at was...
