It has been a long wait till I actually made to The Grill House, it is one of those restaurants that has always been on my Zomato Bookmarks and I never made it, till recently this week. An adhoc lunch vplanning made me and my friend vote between Caesars and The Grill House. As you guessed, the winner was The Grill House and after a quick 10 min walk we reached this beautiful little place below Carnival De Goa (another must visit on my list). First impressions, the all wooden décor was shouting Texas Style Café quiet loud actually.
The overall seating of the place is quiet varied to accommodate intimate dinners, to small groups to large loud office bunch. There is also an open bar and seating on the open terrace above, overlooking the main door. We chose a quiet corner in the ground floor, while we were handed out the (mostly American) impressive and wide menu. We have very little time for lunch so we didn’t waste much time and made our decisions quicker (which was difficult from this large menu).
We settled for an Arabic Lamb Sheek Kebab to start with and ordered a Chicken Princess and an all-time classic Chicken Stroganoff. Both the mains came with an option of being on a plate or a sizzler. We chose to go with the plate, that was sided of veggies, portion of Tex Mex spice rice and mash.
The Sheek Kebabs arrived quickly with a drizzle of mayo and mustard on a bed of salad with a mild mustard dressing. The meat was succulent and just rightly cooked, the bits of mayo and mustard added the all American touch, and brought the right flavour kick the kebabs deserved. Portions were good, with 3 pieces of kebabs each, we eagerly awaited the mains and they arrived shortly after.
The Chicken Princess was more like a roulade, with the spinach and mushroom stuffed on a roll of chicken breast. The meat was cooked a little over, than what it deserved, and the flavours were extremely mild. The Tex Mex rice complimented the mildly flavoured chicken well and so were the veggies and mash.
The highlight of the lunch, however was the Chicken Stroganoff, the slightly spicy strips of chicken, floating on a beautiful mushroom and pepper sauce was just a little too perfect. I would have loved the dish even more if it was served in traditional Stroganoff, the sauce served on a bed of rice. Nevertheless, the dish was wonderfully flavoured, spicy with the chicken cooked just right, went well with the spice rice, mash and veggies.
Too full, we were not sure if we should try their desserts, however we were shown the actual desserts that were on offer, instead of a plain menu. The dessert platter was brimming with sinful treats, after finalising that last two contenders, we agreed with a Chocolate Mousse Cake. So sad that the huge piece of Tiramisu lost the battle. The Mousse cake was a perfect blend of cake and mousse, creamy at the same time firm, which we scooped out of a tiny bottle in which it was served. A fluffy and light way to end a heavy meal.
Quick Summary – A Cuisine that is wonderfully complimented by the Tex Mex Décor, a wide range of Continental and Steak menu that is spiked slightly with an all American flavours, decently priced with better than decent service, thanks The Grill House I am definitely coming back to try the Burgers, Steaks and other interesting desserts...
Read morePathetic service. Cold steak and extras tossed on sizzler plate
Grill house used to be "Our place" for get-togethers with friends and family for the last 4 years. USED TO love the food and the service staff in GH located in Indiranagar(presently shut down).
However different ball game in Ulsoor GH. The staff are not courteous and are biased. As for the food, the portions on the plates are never consistent. Almost always some components are missing from the sizzler plates.
The food quality has really deteriorated. The sizzlers come cold and bland on a sizzler plate with no sizzle. The steaks and veggies are cold. Burnt stale rice. The quantity has reduced drastically.
But still, used to dine here for Novelty sake, atleast 2 or 3 times a month for last 1 year. Also propagated this place to all my network of people. But wont any longer.
The previuos time that we walked in, the place was empty, but staff was not very pleased to see customers. We ordered 3 steaks a Mexican, fillet mignon and lamb layonnaise(all steak sizzlers).
The sizzlers arrived with the cold steaks and extras tossed on a sizzler plate. No gravy..Was served gravy after asking 3-4 times. My sizzler did not have veggies. Was served cold veggies on a seperate plate after asking 3 times.
I understand if there was a rush, but we were the only customers. And then the staff stood around urging for us to finish the meal and get out. We placed an order for a takeway and they informed curtly that "Kitchen is closed".
They did not serve drinks. The curt response was "Bar is closed". We quickly gulped down our food, feeling sorry for them , that they probably need to get home, as it was 11.00pm.
AND THEN...
A family of 4 walked in at 11.40pm. And the staff were all over them , Opened up the bar (at 11.40pm), and the kitchen.(Probably regulars who leave them a heavy tip, perhaps)
Whereas we had gulped down our food in a hurry and waiting for last 10 minutes for the bill. And they then offered curtly,"If u still want the takeaway, we will get it done".No apology. No damage control.Least bothered to loose our business.
The service is soo pathetic. The staff is rude, racists and have a bad attitude. Localites are not treated well here.
If looking for sizzlers AND a good ambience with courteous service, could probably try Yo Mama, Yana sizzlers, Woodstock, Kobe, all located around...
Read moreA vegetarian going to a steakhouse ..many people wonder why but the moment I stepped into the Grill house, I knew I made the right choice. Went with a few hard core non vegetarian friends here and enjoyed the meal.
Ambience – Simple yet elegant ; they have TVs as well for screening sports ; It is located strategically closer to the CBD and easily accessible from all parts of the city
Service – The staff is very courteous . The manager personally ensures that’s the guests are comfortable and even offers recommendations.
Drinks – I opted for a fresh Watermelon Juice but they have a nice variety of beer that goes well with the food. They can even whip up some amazing cocktails and mocktails based on your choice of flavor.
Food – The most interesting part of this place and the best. They have a pretty decent spread for vegetarians as well. As for the non veg lovers, this place is a paradise for them. Do check my pics out to get a visual treat of what this place offers.
For starters, I tried the following:
a) Jamaican Cottage Cheese Cubes – Loved the Caribbean flavours ; the cubes were interspersed with bell peppers and onions and enhanced the flavours
b) Grilled Mushroom Caps – Healthy and delicious ; grilled to perfection
c) Jalapeno Cheese Poppers – Absolute favourite ; crunchy on the outside and the filling was delicious
d) Cripsy Onion Rings – Can never go wrong with this one ; another jewel in their crown
Loved the sauces and accompaniments served with each dish. Presentation was great too.
Main course was the Three Layered Veg Steak – Unless you are famished , you can’t finish this gargantuan steak alone . It has everything you will relish – potato pancakes, cottage cheese steak, veggie steak and topped with spinach ; An absolute delight for the vegetarian palate.
Desserts – They have a great spread and we chose:
Tender Coconut Panna Cotta – I can beg , borrow, steal for this one …what a flavor . It is a perfect dessert in every sense of the word
Apple Pie – Quite flavourful
Caramel Custard – It looked and tasted perfect
Chocolate Walnut Brownie – Tad sweet but a scrumptious dessert
The prices are not steep either and very affordable considering the portion size. They use nice meats as well.
Visit this place and enjoy the experience. I am surely coming back to try the acclaimed...
