I had visited this place before for a gig and found it to be quite romantic. It also had very good reviews, so we decided to come here for Christmas Eve. I really regreted it due to multiple reasons: When we came they were playing commercial music that was quite annoying already. I expected some Christmas music on Christmas Eve! But what came next was unbelievable: they had a "DJ" playing techno! The guy had really zero talent (I'm a DJ myself), the transitions were the worst I ever heard, he played tracks twice and mixed up different techno genres, but not in a good way. Who selected this guy? How can you do this to your guests?? The music was extremely loud too. We saw an Indian - foreign couple with their child entering, clearly to celebrate Christmas Eve, but they just took a round of the place and left. Had this guy been playing already, we would have left too! The drinking glasses were all not properly clean. I expect this in a five start hotel Worst staff behaviour: we ordered some chicken skewers and realized it was totally undercooked. I cut a piece that was totally raw. The waiter took it, the chef came and claimed that it was just different, because it was a leg piece, so the consitancy is different. So instead of admitting a mistake, they tried to fool us. Problem: I have been cooking myself for more than 20 years, chicken most of the days. So don't tell me that I don't know how uncooked chicken looks like. Felt not only fooled, but also offended! They brought some other skewers as a replacement, but they were oddly spicy and I couldn't have I read a lot about their Tiramisu and wanted to try it. Remember, it was Christmas Eve, a Friday and we were one of the first guests, we came early. They had only 4 dessert options on the menu. I told the waiter to bring Tiramisu and he said they don't have. We told him that this is quite disappointing and he brought the manager. The manager told us, that it wasn't out of stock, but they simply didn't make it that day! Out of 4 option you don't even make your signature dessert on a Friday night that too happens to be Christmas Eve? Some drink options we selected from the menu were not available (e.g. Jameson) and they made us take (even) more expensive alternatives Very limited food options. Pizza was good, but why only have 4 options for pizza? Except for the Margherita nothing really Italian. Only two non veg options, one pepperoni (lamb! Why??? This is an offence to Italians, it is supposed to be pork!) and one chicken (this is another offence to Italians! Chicken doesn't belong on a pizza at all!!!) The bruschetta were made out of conserved tomato. Another no-go. Charging 600 bucks for 6 small pieces of bread with conserved tomato is a scam.
We paid around 10k for two people and had chicken skewers, tomato bruschetta, a veg pizza and baklava plus two glasses of red wine and two small whisky. An expensive affair for what they offered. The worst part was the music though. Since our Christmas Eve dinner was totally spoilt, we went to Maffei the next evening, a newly launched place in Koramangala, because I passed by in the afternoon and saw a lot of Christmas decorations. It was simply amazing! They had a Christmas tree and all staff wearing santa hats and they played amazing music. The responsible at Tiamo for atmosphere should get in touch with the Maffei team to learn about proper music in a restaurant! It is no doubt a place with great potential, because by the looks of it it is nice, however it is really...
Read moreI went to Tiamo yesterday (24th Aug) hoping to give my girlfriend a memorable dinner for her birthday. Unfortunately, the experience left us both deeply disappointed.
We reached around 10:15 pm. At the entrance, I was asked where I’d like to sit. When I pointed to a table, I was told that section was already closed for the day and we were seated elsewhere. This was surprising because I clearly remembered that reservations were available till 11:30 pm – why then close off sections so early? Still, I let it pass, since all I wanted was for my girlfriend to have a nice evening.
When we ordered (around 10:30–10:40), I got another shock – the staff said the restaurant closes at 11. I panicked because I had carried a cake for her, assuming (quite reasonably) that if reservations are accepted until 11:30, the place would remain open at least until midnight. When I clarified whether 11 pm was the last order or actual closing time, the waitress confirmed it was closing time. My girlfriend was disappointed and suggested we leave to cut the cake elsewhere.
Around 11–11:15 pm, however, I saw new walk-in customers being allowed in and served food and drinks, even though I had been told the restaurant was closing. Confused, I again asked if we could at least remain till midnight just to cut the cake. The staff hesitantly agreed, which made us feel like we were burdening them. Not wanting to create a scene, we hurried through dinner and convinced my girlfriend to cut the cake by 11:30. She was already upset and teared up, so neither of us even touched the cake.
To make matters worse, as we were leaving, we saw those 11 pm walk-ins being served full meals and drinks, which left me wondering why we were treated differently. It left us with a bitter feeling, almost as if some kind of preferential treatment was at play.
Thanks, Tiamo, for giving my girlfriend a “birthday to remember” - but sadly for all the...
Read moreGreat ambience with lovely views of the lake and the imposing dome of the gurdwara. Outdoor seating was lovely, allowing us to enjoy the pleasant Bangalore weather. Starters were delicious and thoughtfully put together. The main course - a non-veg risotto and a speciality mushroom dish - were both outstanding. Some of the best we’ve tasted. Cooked well, right temp and good choice of cheese. The chef seems to have mastered the flavours - neither overpowering nor totally hidden. But there were a few clear misses. We ordered 2 of the same cocktail, one after the other, but they tasted totally different as the second one was way overdone. Surprisingly inconsistent. Then the dessert - a total let down. We ordered a tiramisu and it tasted like it was least a week old, very sour, lumpy. Shocked at how bad it was. When Bangalore boasts of world class dessert options (and establishments compete especially when it comes to tiramisu options), this must rank way down. Possible that this was a one-off and we were unlucky to get the bad one, but it was pretty bad. Lastly, a little nuance I never understood and is frankly a joke. What is the purpose of asking the guest if it’s a special occasion when booking a table? That question automatically sets expectations. I’m not referring to anything big like an extra dish or a discount but rather a nice small touch like a corner or exclusive table, a simple gesture like a handwritten card or something. I repeated twice that we had a reservation but they didn’t even bother asking for our names when we were led to our table. Not even a reference to the fact that something was mentioned. A totally pointless exercise. Even small restaurants do far better. Overall, Tiamo was a mixed experience. We left feeling like something was missing especially at that...
