As a traveller, one often gets used to outright bad food in some roadside dhaba or some unnamed hovel out of nowhere. Never did I imagine I would reminisce about that food.. that was before I entered Oceanic, of course. The fish finger given was raw, with the fish literally stained reddish-black. The kabab provided as starter was worse than a ₹20 kabab out of a stall by the road, somehow having more bone than chicken.. not that the chicken itself was actually cooked properly. The staff, in all their wisdom, gave us gravy chilli chicken as a starter.. before telling us that the same chilli chicken is present as the main course. That, thankfully, was one of the only edible items in the menu. The babycorn would have been utterly forgettable as a starter, resembling something you would get at some cheap caterer servicing a wedding, if it weren't for the fact that once again, it was one of the only edible items on the menu. The alur dom had no salt, the chicken makhanwala literally was a chicken without any flavour in a thin gravy, the roti was so hard that one would imagine that it was made for the Calcutta jail and mistakenly made its way to our table. The noodles was once again, edible, but then it was always unavailable. As for the desserts, one would do better to go to Mio Amore or Monginis and have a brownie than be subjected to whatever mass-produced monstrosity we were given in the name of a brownie. The cake was forgettable. The ice cream, most definitely, is unforgettable for all the wrong reasons; kudos to the talent required to ruin ice cream and somehow turn chocolate ice cream into some bitter tasting item. For this absolutely unforgettable mess that probably violates FSSAI rules, you pay a princely sum of ₹1400 per person. To anybody who even thinks of visiting Oceanic, I say that you would do well eating out at some roadside shanty which the locals avoid like plague; you would pay less money and probably the food might actually be better than...
Read moreOceanic -By Peerless Inn needs no introduction . The ambiance is spectacular. It's light and airy. It has ample of seating capacity. Due to the pandemic they have made elaborate arrangements to ensure quality service to their customers. Sanitization is done properly at the entrance of the restaurant just to ensure all the safety precautions are maintained. A server is available at the serving counter to serve you food and that ensures less contact . They have a wide range of options to choose from the menu. They have variety of mocktails in the counter to choose from. They are not just delicious but eye catching too. I was pretty disappointed with the starters . There were few items and coleslaw salad . I expected a lot more variety there. The main course however didn't disappoint me. I will highly Recommend- the MUTTON BIRYANI HANDI. It was just lipsmackingly delicious. The mutton was extremely tender and cooked to perfection. The other items on the main course was pretty good and filling. The dessert counter looked like a treasure box. It had wide variety of sweets. From tarts , pie, cupcakes to quintessential gulab jamun , sandesh and misti doi. I thoroughly enjoyed having the sweet dishes. The service could have been better. We had to call the attendant multiple times . Overall my experience has been great. I would recommend everyone to try this buffet out. You won't be disappointed with the legacy that they have...
Read moreThe Oceanic at PeerlessInn needs no special mention, one of the premier restaurant in the city. However the experience did not quite justify the expectation this place promises. It started with the confusion on Dineout code, and continued on the disappointing menu spread. We were welcomed with chicken soup and fish croquettes, which was almost without any trace of fish followed by chicken tikka which was cold and bone in, we had to struggle to chew. The welcome drink came quite late in the game after the starters were served. They do have a salad section, the dahi vada tasted good. The buffet menu had - rice, dal, mix veg, palak paneer, grilled fish in lemon garlic sauce, butter chicken with breads and mutton served at the table. Except the paneer, mutton curry which was the star of the show, grilled fish and kulcha rest of the items were commonplace. The dessert segment had RasaMalai, brownie and ice cream. There were some clear winners in the spread, but there were more disappointments which is not expected from...
