Okay but disappointing in the food sector. Food review below.
The atmosphere and service were amazing all in all, although individuals who are looking for Aircon do find other spots.
We had 3 dishes spending around 860k for 2. 700+k if you don't count the 3 drinks we had.
First up—The grilled octopus with pesto mash potatoes. The pesto is non-existent in the mash, furthermore the salsa on top was not fresh. The only thing good for that dish would be the 2 pieces of grilled octopus, flavorful and chewably soft, not like rubber.
Secondly, we had the Chicken Gnocchi. The gnocchi itself is extremely pleasant texture wise, chewy but not gunky with a flavorful mushroom sauce. However the chicken bits were unimpressive. The actual mushrooms is also on the saltier side of things, nothing special as well. This is already the best dish of the meal in our opinion.
Lastly, the seabass and mash(?). While the mash is pleasant in flavorful and texture, again, nothing special about it. Same goes for the seabass with it's expected meat texture and softness—however that's all it had to offer. No special flavor, no surprising twist, not outstanding quality. It is just like any other pan seared fish, reminded me of when my family fished up seabass to be pan seared at home for dinner...at a large fraction of the cost of course, but same quality. The salsa is also present in this dish, as unfresh as it has been on the octopus dish of course.
Additional Note: They did offer free bread, biscuit stick and sliced olives It's alright, nothing special either.
In summary, while the food is decent, there's is nothing outstanding about the flavor and textures except for the gnocchi itself. For the cost, the food falls extremely short of expection. However if you're looking for a nice night environment with good customer service then it's still alright for a choice.
TLDR: Both food taste and portion is mediocre, especially for the price point. Would not recommend. Cook at...
Read moreStumbled across this place last night while looking for where to get dinner... It opened just a bit over 2 weeks ago, so everything is still brand new... The staff was well trained and highly motivated... We went there with our 1,5 yo and they were lovely to him, brought a baby chair in a heart beat... As the seatings/tables are quite low, the baby chair was a lot higher than the table but it worked out well... The dining area inside has a good look into the open kitchen area, which is interesting but either the exhaust didn't work or isnt strong enough, so when the kitchen got busy, there was smoke everywhere... I can't imagine that this is on purpose... The outside area is beautifully designed with some ponds and I assume open fire places... We got the Fish and Chips from the Kids Selection (very tasteful, freshly cut potatoes, yet some parts were a bit too crunchy/hard to eat for a 1,5 yo), the Seafood Aglio Olio (which was labeled spicy, yet my husband asked for some chopped chillies as the "spicy", as it is labeled, is probably for European tongues") and the Salmon Rigatoni... Portion size could be a bit bigger for the price, yet I wasnt surprised as restaurants in this class tend to have huge plates with small portions... the Zucchini Fritters with Tzatziki were very good, too... all in all a very nice dinner in a very beautiful place with wonderful staff, I hope they can maintain this level of service and keep the interior that nice as in the tropics it wears down pretty quickly, or at least hopefully they have the funds to replace stuff when it isn't in a good...
Read moreComing from Greece we decided to honour one of the Greek places in ubud for dinner and we chose Chora because of the positive reviews. All in all this was very disappointing.
The ambience and the decor of the restaurant is excellent, the service is ok and the food disappointing to be branded as Greek. On the welcome dish the olive paste was certainly not from Greece as well as the olive oil. The pitta bread was certainly not pitta bread and the serving way too small. The shrimp saganaki was average with very few shrimps, the mpiftekakia had no spices to remind you of any mediterranean mpiftekakia and the meat was way too heavy to digest, the ultimate disappointment was the lobster which aside of being over priced it was prepared with a lot of mushrooms and white sauce to the point that we couldn't distinguish what we were eating. The orzo was average and again nothing close the the greek dish of kritharaki. The octopus and tirokafteri were the only 2 dishes we liked. For dessert we decided to have the bougatsa which was not a bugatsa and the cream had an intense taste of lemon instead of vanilla. We paid for these 145 euros with a local beer and a soft drink which for Bali and Ubud is safe to say that it was an absolute rip off if we consider the value we got for our money and that we paid on avg 40 euros for our other dinners in good restaurants
Last but not least, a Greek restaurant with no Greek wine labels nowadays and with the lack of Greek ingredients and spices to its dishes it should not be...
