Seribu Rasa Menteng Central Jakarta April 2019
Vietnamese Crispy Duck for 150 K IDR++ and Selat Popia for 62 K IDR ++.
It is often hard to find good quality Southeast Asian food at this level of service, but Seribu Rasa really does give you great bang for your buck. Well... except for the cocktails I guess - they are all quite interesting twist of classic cocktails, sadly they seem to be skimping on the alcohol.
The most exemplary dish would arguably be the Selat Popia and crispy duck options. You really can't go wrong with the Selat Popia at 62 K IDR++ for 6 since you will get crispy and masterfully crafted edible cup filled with the best mixture of veggies and meat complete with that bit of spicy oomph. One could have two or three portions of this thing without anything else and onr would be a happy camper.
Then comes the Vietnamese Crispy Duck which is really soft duck meat topped with mashed yams and then deep fried to give a really crispy outer skin. The duck gives are so soft to the bite yet it has that perfect consistency that still offers a different texture to contrast with the mashed yams as well as the crispy outer skin. It is served with a rich thick sauce which - when applied sparingly - really balances the savoriness of the dish. Their Yangoon Crispy Duck is also really good at 130 K IDR++, but i chose to snap the former as it is more presentable as the Yangoon variant is served more like a DIY Peking duck roll. However, it is important to note that they amped up the crispiness of this Yangoon variant compared to just about any Peking duck roll you can find anywhere. It really is a treat to assemble and eat, so do try it out.
Do also try their Terong Balado (67 K) as probably the best example of well cooked aubergine that has not gone all mushy. One must concede that they really did master the cooking time required to maintain a desirable texture. Then there is also the amazing Seafood Cakwe (67 K) and best mocktail ever Labuan Colada (50 K).
All in all, the asking price may sound a bit steep at first, but it really is worth...

Read moreI am extremely dissatisfied with the service at Seribu Rasa on Monday, November 27th, 2023. Our choice of this high-end restaurant for a business lunch to showcase Indonesian cuisine to our client turned into a thoroughly unsatisfactory experience. Upon my colleague taking a seat, the chair unexpectedly collapsed, posing a serious risk to her safety. The broken wood had the potential to cause severe injuries, but thankfully, she escaped with bruises and scratches on her leg, arm, and wrist.
What adds to my disappointment was the lack of response from the staff. Despite the restaurant being relatively empty at the time and the staff not being occupied, she did not receive any apology or compensation for the distressing incident. This lack of acknowledgment and accountability only further tarnished my impression of the establishment. I anticipated a high-end restaurant like Seribu Rasa to prioritize customer safety and satisfaction, and this experience fell significantly short of those expectations.
We were also surprised to find flies inside the restaurant. Throughout our meal, we had to...
