STAFF MEMBER IMPERSONATING MY MOTHER'S WALK DIRECTLY BEHIND HER IN PACKED RESTAURANT, WITHOUT APOLOGY OR PROMISED FOLLOW-UP PHONE CALL .

WARNING SPEND YOUR MONEY ELSEWHERE!!

We were a party of 4 ladies dining out before going on to a show on Saturday evening, my mother's portabello mushroom was served cold with only warm cheese quickly solidifying on top, she complained and it was replaced with a second in under 5mins, this one not hot either. My mother found it very difficult on both occasions to swallow said cold mushroom as you can imagine, but being a lady did not want to be seen spitting it out. She refused a third and also any offer of substitute. The rest of the meal was OK, nothing special and I am being gracious here as my salmon had crispy edges so definitely overcooked it was also missing the pesto crust. However what happen next was the icing on the cake, myself and my mother were on the way back from the ladies, I was seated before her, a waiter came up behind her and not being able to pass (the space is tight, cramped and busy) he began to imitate her gait and speed, all the time waving his hands behind her in impatience. Both my sister and myself witnessed this and were shocked. We called over the maitre d to complain. We had tried do this quietly and discreetly so as to keep my mother unaware. English is not this gents first language so he did not seem to comprehend, and then wanted to know if the waiter pushed her or touched her. After explaining repeatedly that her was slaging her walk and that it was completely unacceptable my mother was now completely aware of what happened behind her back. We were handed the bill promptly and paid €166 and were almost ushered out into the hall, with the reassurance that the maitre d would let me know what happened. When I asked him how and when he was going to do that he looked baffled, upon explaining that he would need to at least take my name and number to do so. I stood there and demanded he write down my details, he reassured me he would contact me on Monday it is now 23.00 and I have not heard anything. Quite frankly this is shocking behaviour and I would not recommend anyone risk taking their mother here there are plenty of better restaurants to choose from. A distressing start to what was meant to be a lovely night out that we had waited...

Millstone Restaurant on Dame Street is an absolute gem in the heart of Dublin. Stepping inside feels like entering another era, where old-world charm and warmth wrap around you like a welcoming hug. From the elegant stone walls and warm wood accents to the ambient lighting and cozy atmosphere, the setting is both timeless and comfortable, perfect for a special family occasion.

We celebrated Father's Day there with three generations at the table, including my dad and son who are both coeliac, and I can confidently say the experience was outstanding from start to finish. What truly sets Millstone apart—beyond its beautiful decor and central location—is the exceptional hospitality. The staff were not just attentive, they were genuinely warm and eager to accommodate every request. It felt like they took pride in making our visit memorable, and they succeeded.

One of the standout aspects for us was Millstone’s dedicated coeliac menu. It is a rare and wonderful thing to find a restaurant that takes dietary restrictions so seriously while still delivering an impressive culinary experience. The gluten-free options were varied, delicious and clearly crafted with care, not just as afterthoughts. My dad and son both had plenty to choose from and were delighted by the quality and flavour of every dish. It's not every day you find a place where being gluten-free feels like an upgrade rather than a limitation.

As for the food—wow. Every bite was bursting with flavour, beautifully presented and surprisingly affordable given the quality. We shared a selection of starters, each more impressive than the last, and the mains were nothing short of sublime. The steaks were cooked to perfection, the fish was fresh and flaky, and the sauces tied everything together flawlessly. Desserts were indulgent and gluten-free without compromising taste or texture, which is no small feat.

In a city full of dining options, Millstone stands out as a place that genuinely cares, not just about the food, but about the people it serves. It’s rare to find a restaurant that blends tradition, affordability, quality and inclusivity so seamlessly. We left full, happy and already planning...

Poor experience overall.

all our steaks bar one were over cooked. the menu online was completely different from in the restaurant and also more expensive. There were only 4 starters available as opposed to 7 on the website. The mussels were 5.95 additional as opposed to 3 listed on the website. Half of the mains on the website listed on the set menu were not listed in the restaurant. we ordered from the set menu and were not asked which sides we wanted so they brought us all salad( they brought us fries after we asked where they were) the starters (mushroom and mussels) were nice as well as the desserts (bannoffi and cheesecake covid certs were not checked for Indoor dining on one side of our table, there was a perspex barrier for covid safety, on the other side there was not and I may as well have been sitting on the same chair as the person next to me it was that close. our bill was 70€ over charged. The set menu was not noted on the bill so were charged the full rate for everything. We were charged for an additional fries and 5 coffees instead of 4. We said it to the waitress and the manager came over and said we all ordered 10oz steaks when we had all been ordering and pointing from the set menu. He then questioned what time we arrived to see if we were there for the set menu. He came back with a new receipt which had just removed some items on it but everything else was full priced which led us to having to calculate everything seperately. There was no apology from the manager and the card was snatched from us for payment the table to the left of us kept having to ask where their main was and one person was left to receive their main after everyone had finished. the table to the right was given the wrong starters

The only reason this is a 2 star was due to the starters and...

Sad. We have been going to this restaurant for about 9 years, always fab. I went during lockdown with a friend & it wasn't good but we decided to go back as a family again to celebrate out birthdays for one last chance. Terrible... Menu was changed so it wasn't a great start. Anyway we ordered, starters much smaller than before & nothing like we had before tasted fine though. Dinner was a complete rip off. Mash potatoe tasted like it had margarine in it, it was disgusting. My son loves the mash there & his 1st spoonful he spit into a tissue. I tasted it & it was disgusting. Steaks were nothing like before. Desserts menu not good, we normally get the brownie & then the chef writes on the plate Happy Birthday, no brownies on the menu anymore so we just asked for the bill. The chef actually recognised us & said it was all changed, I assume new owners 😢 I was telling a work colleague as she used to go aswell, she said she went a while ago & she went to eat the mash potatoe & it was hard as If it was frozen & a lump of margarine was under it, she sent it back & left. So sad as it was our favourite restaurant for years & the detail on the plates & staff were amazing but that's all gone now & the prices are absolutely ridiculous. The place wasn't even full coming up to Xmas, it always used to be full before Xmas, I always booked well in advance. Obviously others aren't impressed with the food either. I don't recommend the restaurant anymore to friends, family's, on social media platforms. Don't waste your hard earned money. Pity
