La Vita è Bella — Restaurant in Como

We were a party of four. I think everyone was happy about their starters. I highly recommend the grilled octopus, really good dish, very nice flavours, perfectly cooked octopus. My boyfriend had Pappa al pomodoro with parmesan crisp and brandy flavoured shrimp, and my sister had the Black rice waffle with beef tartare -both were happy about their choices. As a main, I had spaghetti with mussels - good, simple, not wow, I think my boyfriend had the mushroom ravioli with some beef tartare on top - good, and my sister had paella - not good. I know, lesson learned, never will order paella in Italy again, it's a Spanish dish, maybe that is why it had such a weird taste, but she could not eat it and neither could I, and I have tasted paella in Spain before. As a desert, my sister ordered a crema catalana - very delicious and warm, she was definitely happy about this choice; my boyfriend and I shared a tiramisu - felt kinda old and a bit dry, and our friend ordered a carrot cake, that had a nice ginger flavour, was moist, he was happy about the choice. Don't waste your time or money or tastebuds. We were so excited to try La Vita è Bella based on our airbnb host's recommendation and all the glowing reviews. We left so disappointed.

It's almost as if this place changed owners or staff or something between when the good reviews were left and now (April 2023). Nothing about it was worthwhile and we were overall disappointed that we even went there. We only have a few dinners while in Como on vacation and we've just wasted one of them.

The entire experience felt like a generic food chain restaurant. Bread brought out in retail plastic packaging. Staff that seemed like they were just there to clock another day at work (not blaming the staff at all, this is probably a reflection on management).

We had the oriental salad, spaghetti carbonara and risotto lobster. The salad was decent, no complaints about it. The spaghetti was barely worth eating and the meat in it was at least half fat. The risotto was not worth eating at all, the rice was hard, the lobster was nearly non-existent and the whole dish...

Waste of an evening! I'm not really sure how to review this restaurant on the one hand the food was pretty good, everything was fresh, and in general well made. However, we have arrived at the restaurant at around 8:00 p.m. ordered two salads to share between four of us and a main dish each, the food took forever to be served! The waiters were very nice and polite but that did not change the fact that between the salads and the main we were not served until about 10:00 p.m. almost 2 hours after we walked in the restaurant ! It wasn't even specifically a busy night. Many of the tables were empty when we walked in, it got a little busier later on, but at that point we should have already been finished. As this was our first night in Como, we intended on having a meal and going for a nice walk around the lake but by the time we were done it was too late and dark, the evening was wasted and we headed back...
