Used to live in Como and I’ve had dinner at Riva 4-5 times. The place is cozy, staff is nice and the food has always been well cooked/nice (although not amazing). But yesterday we went back and we didn’t have a good experience. The waiter or kitchen missed our order and we had to wait more than 1 hour on the main course. Mistakes can happen but it’s the way they handled it that shows lack of experience. It took them 45 min before they mentioned that the order was lost and then after I asked if the food was coming (after 55 min of waiting) the said “yes now it’s really just two minutes left”. But in the end it took another 12 min (we checked 😅).

After this experience they didn’t offer anything so I had to ask for a discount. Now luckily they removed our main dishes from the tab and that’s why I anyway give them a 3 (otherwise it would’ve been lower).

PS. They charge €5 per person for coperta (service fee) which also is a bit...

Waited for 10 minutes to get seated, on a not busy day. Got briefed by the supervisor/sommelier on the menu and recommendations, after we got seated. The manager nodded her head first when we gave our order, then said she will confirm the order from us in a matter of seconds, but disappeared for 25 minutes. Her subordinate waitress came in the middle and said she’ll check with the supervisor, followed by more waiting, and only upon my wife checking, after a full total of 35 minutes that she offered to take our order. Perhaps we did not fit the description of people that the manager felt was worthy of adequate and timely service. Absolutely dismal and unacceptable.

Drove 10 hours from Lyon, and absolutely tired and disappointed. And really hungry, but we just were too tired to order and eat beyond that. The waitress did apologize profusely, but the worst part is the supervisor did not even bother to come and remedy...

We waited 1,5h for the main dish. When I brought up this issue at the end the excuse was that we wanted to keep remains of our starter for later - which we told 3 times to 3 different waiters, as well as that we are ready for the main course. But they knew better. When the dish finally arrived - the risotto was undercooked with too salty fish, pasta was allright but nothing special, definitely was not worth the price. Also be careful - "coperto" service is as high as 5e a person which is the highest i've seen in Italy during our trip, and we went to way better restaurants - or it was only a price for us because the waiter (the older one) was upset that we had some objections, he commented on us in Italian to his collegue in a very rude way, also was rude to me when when I brought up that we are not satisfied. The other waiters were polite, and apologized for the inconvenience though. Horrible experience with...

If you love Wine…this is a great place to try all the Italian wines you can imagine without breaking the bank. Our party enjoyed all a Charcuterie board, Caprese Salad, Risotta w/ Perch, Duck Breast and more. I ordered the Spaghetti Alla Chitarra which is served with fish dried in the sun. I didn’t quite understand that when I ordered it and it was SUPER SALTY. As a chef, I understand that it wasn’t because they oversalted the dish, it’s because of the fish and how it’s preserved. It tasted like salty anchovies, but just overwhelming. If anchovies is your jam, this may be the dish for you. Fortunately there were 6 of us, so everyone shared a bit of their orders and I was good, plus…all the wine I could drink, so all was not lost! Overall, a great experience and would recommend.

We found this spectacular restaurant by accident. It appears to be family owned. But I am not sure. The gentleman who greeted us gave us a brief tour and explained all about the restaurant and all of the local wines and food they serve. The menu consists of recipes typical of the region. The wine, gin, and beers are of this region and you are welcome to do a tasting. The gentleman offered suggestions for wine for each course and it was impeccable. I requested he write them for me so I would be sure to note them. Truly an exceptional experience and it was reasonably priced for the superb service and quality of food and wine. You must have this experience.
