La Botteghina — Restaurant in Cortona

What a disappointment! The server was dismissive the moment we walked into the door to ask for a table at the empty cafe. The food was okay—the boar stew tasted like it was cooked in a crock pot for days but the cheese and meat were good.

At the end of the meal, our server very obviously made fun of us for not speaking fluent Italian with the guests who got seated right next to us when we asked for the bill. It was surprising given that they provide English menus and advertise in English on their front signs. It made us feel very unwelcome to be there where other places in Italy have been warm and friendly, or at the least, polite enough not to laugh directly...

Abbiamo scelto con delle mie amiche questa gastronomia attirate dalla possibilità di avere dei panini.

Essendo vegana non avevo alte aspettative, quindi decido di chiedere alla persona dietro al bancone se fosse possibile un panino con le verdure che aveva, così da non metterla troppa in difficoltà.

Non solo mi dice che l'unica cosa che ha sono formaggi e affettati che può mettermi nel panino, (cosa non vera, perché nel menù vi erano sia le verdure al piatto che i fagioli, ma non potevo ordinare qualcosa dal menù e metterlo nel panino) ma si è anche messa a ridere schernendomi per tutto il pranzo.

Ordino i fagioli all' uccelletto, non essendo toscana chiedo se sono vegani.

Lei continua a prendermi in giro trattandomi da povera scema, che si che me li può fare i fagioli ma che "le cose vegane non ce l'ho".

Confusa e spazientita decido comunque di prendere i fagioli, perché avevo una gran fame e dovevamo sbrigarci.

Alla fine mi sono mangiata i fagioli all' uccelletto spalmati sul pane, tra l'altro una porzione davvero misera ( quindi qualcosa di creativo si poteva comunque realizzare con un minimo sforzo) Servizio lento ( ma era effettivamente da sola a lavorare quindi non me la sento di infierire) e ad un certo punto, di sua sponte, decide che nel portare la bruschetta alla mia amica ci tiene a farmi sapere che lì c'è la salsiccia, ridendo, come se non lo sapessi già. Abbiamo pagato e siamo andate via, mai più.

È allucinante che nel 2025 ancora devo vivere questa stigmatizzazione per l'ignoranza e la maleducazione di chi non comprende che i soldi che spendo per mangiare valgono esattamente come qualsiasi...

Great food, friendly service, catered to foreigners friendly and well. I love that at least much of what they cook they grow locally. The Tuscan beef peposo, slow cooked beef with red wine and pepper sauce was delicious. So was the Botteghina salad, mixed salad with black olives and artichokes.
