My husband and I were excited to try this restaurant on our last night in Florence for our honeymoon trip due to the excellent reviews.
We were sat as soon as we came in a little before 8:00PM without a reservation, which was awesome! The service seemed friendly at first and they were very conscious of dietary needs from the beginning which was greatly appreciated.
We first ordered an antipasti dish which was a vegetarian option called “Il Cuoppo.” The waiter stated “oh wow” when the antipasti was mentioned and made a face which indicated that it was not the best item on the menu. We went through with the order regardless in an effort to not be rash with our decision. At the same time, we ordered the Margherita pizza and my husband ordered the calzone.
Our antipasti was promptly served after a few minutes. However, this dish missed the mark. Some portions of the dish were ok. However, the quality was not great. The flavors were all over the place and quite frankly were not good. We should have heeded the waiter’s facial expression.
We waited until about 8:40PM to receive our entrees. It seemed to be a busy Saturday night. However the table that was sat approximately 10 minutes after us received, ate, and had their plates taken before we even saw our food.
The calzone came out first, which had a very bad meat to cheese ratio. My husband could only eat 1/4 of it before he was done with trying to find the protein. The Margherita pizza (which came out about 10 minutes after the calzone) was completely soggy/watery, flimsy (could not be folded), the toppings fell off the second the slixe was picked up, and honestly it seemed quite undercooked. The crust was transparent because it was so wet. We tried to scarf down a few pieces, but gave up. It was absolutely disgusting.
We had much better Margherita pizzas in other Italian pizza restaurants (namely in Rome), so this was NOT normal & authentic Italian pizza.
The waiter asked if we did not like our dishes when we asked for the check due to them being mostly uneaten. We were honest and stated our concerns with the pizza. We let the issues with the calzone go as they were not a huge deal.
We had no expectation of this being brought to management, but he stated that we needed to wait “a few minutes” so he could talk to his boss about the pizza.
We never saw that waiter again and were charged the full amount for everything. The check was brought to us by a completely different waiter.
There may be other pizzas and dishes at this restaurant that are worth the visit! Some photos in other reviews are beautiful. I think they definitely missed the mark with our experience though. At 57.50 Euros for less than half eaten dishes we honestly...
Read moreI can't say enough about how wonderful this establishment is. We try to go to a different place each time we go out while traveling, but we had to return to Ciro & Sons. My sister has a gluten intolerance and it can be difficult to find quality gluten free options. This restaurant offers a gluten free options for everything on the menu and the quality does not lessen!! The whole service team is so pleasant, smiling, attentive, and made excellent recommendations when we struggled to choose. Our main server today was Alex and he was fantastic. When bringing out the main courses, of our group of 10, two people got the same dish and one was my gluten free sister. The sticker denoting the gluten free was set in front of her and it was covered by a special lid to grate your own cheese over the top. When they lifted the lids, Alex immediately recognized the different noodles and caught how the gluten free was mislabeled. Thankfully they hadn't eaten yet, but wow was he on top of it!! Easy mistake to mislabel with the sticker in a busy kitchen, but thankfully the serving team has people like Alex who know the menu well and can visually double check!! I can't say enough about the excellent food, you'll have to try for yourself to understand, but this visit I had their handmade ravioli with fresh truffle and white sauce and I do not exaggerate when I say it is hands down the BEST ravioli I've ever had!! Heavenly. Absolutely heavenly. Please try it...
