First of all: in the end we didn’t have to pay anything – the owners were very fair and handled the situation professionally.
Why am I still writing this review? I am a chef myself (our kitchen in Germany has been awarded a Michelin star) and I care deeply about creating memorable evenings for guests. At the same time, I want to stress that when I dine out privately, I don’t expect Michelin standards. I simply want what every guest wants: a relaxed evening, good food, good service, and a nice experience.
It was our very first day in Florence – also the start of our honeymoon, something you only experience once in a lifetime. While walking around earlier that day, I noticed this beautifully decorated trattoria, and in the evening my wife and I decided to go in.
The atmosphere was charming, the menu promising. But right at the beginning there was confusion: I spotted a bottle of Bollinger Special Cuvée listed at €90, with a note underneath that it was also available as 0.375 l. When I asked the waitress whether the €90 price was for the full 0.75 l bottle or the half bottle, she insisted (twice) that it was for the half bottle. That seemed extremely overpriced to me, so we decided instead to order two beers – which never arrived.
For a starter, we asked whether we could try the large antipasti plate (listed for 5 people at €30) in a smaller portion just for the two of us, even if we paid the full price. That wasn’t possible. So we chose some small crostini instead. Unfortunately, most of them were topped with meat, even though I had mentioned my wife is vegetarian. That in itself wouldn’t have been a big issue – but again, no beers ever came, despite reminding the waitress twice.
Meanwhile, a new table of four arrived next to us: they ordered wine, it was brought, opened, poured and enjoyed – while we were still waiting 30 minutes for two simple beers. In the end, we asked for the bill, explained our disappointment, and the manager was very understanding. We didn’t have to pay, which was the right and fair decision.
Still, the evening was lost. We had looked forward to a special night together, and instead we left feeling frustrated. On your honeymoon, you can’t get that time back.
I want to underline this: hospitality isn’t just about food, it’s about making people happy and creating memories. That’s why we work in this industry. Sadly, on this night, the service took that chance away from us.
Conclusion: The place is beautiful, and the management handled the situation well, but the service ruined our evening. I give 4 stars – not less, because I don’t want to harm the restaurant, but not more, because what was taken from us was worth more than money: it was precious time on...
Read moreTerrible service from the false wait times given, to the zero attention from any servers, plus the immense amount of attitude for someone who came across the world to try food here. I can see where this would be a great time if delivered properly by staff. We waited an hour in the rain to be seated after being told 30 minutes which she then told everyone who came after 30 minutes so that was incredibly false, very messy even reservations were awkwardly waiting for quite awhile just to be told wait a bit longer, I cannot imagine. Once we got seated we were given water and then ignored for another half hour when we just wanted to place an order for a bottle, once we did it took another 20 minutes to get the bottle while everyone around us seated at the same time was receiving bottles and their first courses. While waiting a female server who wasn’t our server came over seemingly upset we “hadn’t ordered” but we had already done so, just nothing was being delivered to us she walked off with an attitude as if it’s our fault? We ended up waving our server over who was giggling and having a great time with all his tables, which we hate to do because it isn’t considered respectful although neither is almost an hour without a food order. We placed our orders for pasta and the large T bone, the pasta came out which was good nothing to rave about. We finished the pasta, waiting for our steak my partner ordered a coke, which never came! We flagged down the woman who seated us and asked why we never received 1. The coke and 2. The steak we ordered. She proceeded to run to the back and immediately came back with the coke, then the steak which came out 10/15 minutes later with an immense apology. This means it was never put in as an order by our server which at this point we have taken personal because we’ve been nothing but patient at this point. Steak was honestly not good, no flavor besides salt and pretty tough cut of meat although the presentation was nice. We are from Miami, I work at a 5 star rooftop restaurant rated amongst the best in the world, top tier drinks food and service and I was quite frankly disgusted at the all around service this restaurant gave us. Will NEVER be back and will make sure none of our friends make the same mistake we did when in Florence, the 11 days we spent here and not a single bad review. Do yourself a favor and go to an actual Trattoria with staff and owners who care about the experience their patrons receive. We cannot remember her name but the hostess was the only one who gave us compassion throughout the night, she deserves recognition. We came Thursday October 3rd at night if you could locate the hostess who worked...

If you're looking for an exceptional dining experience in Florence, Trattoria dall'Oste Chianineria is a must-visit. This restaurant stands out with its incredibly fresh and delicious dishes, which you can enjoy in a warm and inviting atmosphere.
We opted for the set menu, which proved to be great value for the variety and quality of food offered. The meal started with a delightful array of appetizers that showcased the restaurant's commitment to fresh ingredients and flavorful preparations.
One of the highlights of our meal was the Florentine steak. It was a generous portion, cooked to perfection, and bursting with flavor. The steak, along with the other courses, made for a hearty and satisfying meal that was more than enough to fill us up. If you're keen to try Florentine steak, this is the place to do it.
My daughter had the Ragu, and she loved it. The pasta was perfectly cooked, and the sauce was rich and savory, making for a truly comforting dish. Every bite was a testament to the quality and freshness of the ingredients.
The service at Trattoria dall'Oste Chianineria was amazing. The staff was attentive, friendly, and eager to ensure that our dining experience was nothing short of exceptional. Their knowledge of the menu and their recommendations enhanced the overall experience.
In addition to the outstanding food, the restaurant also offers great drinks and awesome desserts. The Limoncello Spritz and Limoncello shots are a must-try, providing a refreshing and authentic taste of Sorrento. The beverage selection complements the meals perfectly, and the desserts provide a sweet ending to a fantastic meal.
What makes Trattoria dall'Oste Chianineria even more refreshing is the overall experience, especially after having a couple of days where we paid a lot more for average food and encountered rude service elsewhere. Loved this place for its commitment to quality, affordability, and excellent customer service.
Overall, Trattoria dall'Oste Chianineria in florence is thoroughly recommended for anyone who appreciates high-quality, fresh food, excellent service, and a delightful dining atmosphere.
