This owners and staff at this place should be awfully embarrassed for the experience we had last night here.
Firstly we were sat next to an open “fridge” of fish that stank. Fresh fish should not smell strongly at all!! We then asked to move- nicely, as there were may seats available inside (this should have been a warning to us). When we ordered drinks the server then told me i couldn’t have a Campari and soda- but a sprtiz instead. Is this not Italy??? I was not in a basic bish mood at the time (non judgement, love being a ph 10 when the urge arises) and an aperol spritz is NOT A CAMPARI AND SODA. If i wanted a spritz, i would have asked for one. When the server returned and we clarified (in Italian) what drink i wanted, he rolled his eyes took 10mins to make me a flat watered down Campari. Sure our Italian is rusty, but we were spoken back to in english, which was offensive to my partner who is Italian (but grew up in Australia) and also, just unnecessarily rude.
When our entree was brought out we had to ask for side plates (for a moment i was wondering if we had to eat off the table cloth). The zucchini fritto was stodgy, thick, and undercooked. It should be light and crunchy, not like British fish and chips.
My partner had the spaghetti vongale - too much oil, otherwise just ok. I ordered the gnocchi and it had noticeable uncooked lumps of potatoes within it. Sure it was pillowy, but it should never be lumpy!! The pomodoro sauce was ok but tasted like pre-made jar stuff. The parmigiano also tasted like the Kraft cheese sprinkles (if you’re Australian, you know).
We also had a man sitting next to us (1m away) staring at us in a very sleazy and gross way, clicking his forks together while doing so. It made us so uncomfortable and feel unsafe. It was clear the staff had no interest no to ensure our dining experience was enjoyable, or even just mediocre. We couldnt get out of there fast enough, which was hindered by the poor service again at the register on paying- and it was not busy.
Do not go here if you value respectful staff, quality food and atmosphere. Especially do not go here if you are female/s without a male. Especially not safe for queer women.
Take us back to my partner’s Nonna’s cucina any...
Read moreThis place is simply the best!!! We've been in Rome for 10 days and tried many restaurants, and not one is even close to this one. The staff is friendly, and patient and happy to have you. They are not insulted if you speak English and they will encourage you if you try a little Italian. But, we went here multiple times for the food. The pizza is delicious. Classic Roman style crust. You can customize if you want to. But then we went back for the veal, steak, salmon and swordfish. All cooked to perfection. The sides, roasted potatoes and green beans were so fresh and tasty. The bread is always fresh. And we ended our last meal with tiramisu. You will not be disappointed. We don't review places often, but we've had so many average meals in Italy, that we had to comment. This place is...
Read moreBEWARE! This restaurant scams tourists. I wish I didn't have to write these words of warning, as our food was really good overall (pizza was not the best, but the pasta and oxtail were really delicious). However, they tacked on a bogus 5 Euro "servicio" service charge for no reason other than that my boyfriend and I were tourists. I did some research, and this kind of charge is ONLY legal IF it's mentioned on the menu. I went and double checked the menu, and it's nowhere on there. They decided to take advantage of us because we were not local. It's really a shame, because I would have otherwise had a good impression of this place. But honestly, just take your business elsewhere - somewhere that doesn't try to...
