I’m writing this bad review because my husband got sick and had to throw up in the street after we had dinner here. I was going to forget this bad experience as bad luck until it ruined the rest of our night. We only went here because it was a higher reviewed restaurant in the Campo de Fiori square. It was a bit too late to make it to Da Pancrazio (one of the most amazing restaurants in Rome. Absolutely every dish is to die for.) so I did a quick search for acceptable restaurants nearby. Somehow you guys gave this restaurant a high average rating and I don’t know why. My expectations were already not high because the area is a tourist trap and this place managed to be far worse than expected. The waiter assured us it was the best restaurant there. We decided to only get appetizers as it was pretty late and we wanted a lighter meal. We ordered an octopus salad, a beef carpaccio, and a Mediterranean seafood salad. We also ordered a rum absinthe cocktail and a Prosecco. When the waitress brought out the cocktail, she lit the sugar cube on fire in popular absinthe fashion. There was a plastic straw in the cocktail that began to melt with the sugar. My husband pulled out the straw because it was melting. The Prosecco was terrible. I tried to make my husband drink it because he is less discerning but he didn’t like it either. I eventually chugged it because I wanted to get it over with, and I didn’t want to complain. All 3 dishes came out at once and I didn’t want to point out what was wrong because I wanted my husband to try to enjoy the food. The octopus was very slimy and VERY fishy. The Mediterranean salad had shrimp full of poop (no attempt to de-vein) and also a handful of imitation crab. The beef carpaccio was the least offensive of the three. It was a strange presentation, as the beef slices hid a mountain of arugula. It was not the worst but i could never recommend this to anyone I cared about. This whole meal was a complete waste of €53. I never mind spending money on food but this was not worth it. I have not taken the time to write a bad review of a restaurant in about 6 years, so this experience was remarkable. Really friendly staff though. I...
Read moreHad breakfast at ll Baccanale for the first time, after arriving in Rome after three months in Martina Franco.
My wife had the sausage and scrambled eggs. I had the fruit, yogurt, cereal and toast with honey. I’m aware that Italians don’t generally do this type of breakfast, they eat dolce etc.
The yogurt and fruit provided was good, no complaints there. Except they expected me to have the cereal and yoghurt together. Which just wouldn’t work, So I asked for milk with the cereal, leaving the yogurt and fruit together, which I enjoyed! After eating that I used the milk for the cereal, milk was hot making the cereal soggy. As advertised toast came with honey, no honey came with the toast. When I asked for the honey, I was told the honey was finished🙄. They gave me butter instead, which was hard and ripped the toast apart. Wife’s breakfast was Ok, scrambled eggs were dry, not particularly nice.
If you’re a restaurant and your menus give the option, then it’s your responsibility is to get it right. Learn about what you’re serving. Overall this breakfast was clumsy at best. I wouldn’t eat here again...
Read moreFirst night in Rome we decided to stay somewhere close by and didn't regret it.
My wife ordered the spaghetti with baby lobster and I ordered... Can't recall exactly, but it was spaghetti with bacon onion and cheese (recommended by our waiter - as I just order whatever the waiters recommend as they should know best).
My wife was very happy with her meal (which isn't bad after having nothing but pasta and pizza for the last 2/3 weeks) and said she would personally rate it 4/4.5. My meal was good too (possibly a 3.5/4), which gave us an average of about 4 stars.
We also ordered desert - lava cake with ice cream and tiramisu. We were both quite happy with our choices, and for someone who doesn't like any kind of coffee flavoured anything, my wife really enjoyed the tiramisu!
After a meal each, desert each and 2 drinks each, it came to a total of 66€, which we weren't expecting that much, but I guess it's not too badly priced.
Would definitely recommend having a meal here. We might even come back tomorrow for the "buy a drink and all you can eat...
