I consider myself a foodie and a good judge of Italian food, I have tried many Italian restaurants in multiple countries and across Italy. Unfortunately, I booked this on my first night in my most recent trip to Rome. Honestly, the food wasn’t terrible, but it was by far one of the poorer meals I’ve had. The croquette was nice, it wasn’t oily and the taste was enjoyable, we went for the minced meat and onion, however I did note that the oil it had been fried in could have done with changing, it had that certain aroma and flavour of spent oil. For the main I had pasta, it was far too al dente and the meal lacked any real depth of flavour, it essentially tasted of low quality tinned tomato with some pecorino on top. Had I realised where the restaurant was located when booking it, I probably wouldn’t have booked it, but I still went as to give it a chance. When it comes to looking for places to eat in Rome, what I would say is that lots of positive reviews in central/touristy areas really don’t reflect the quality of the food. They are not reviews from locals, they are from people who have little experience in the cuisine they are eating and have not experienced a good quality meal. On a positive, the service was good and the staff were polite and friendly. As a side note, I saw the Cacio e Pepe and it looked like it was out of a jar, please do not let this be your experience of one of Rome’s...
Read moreHonestly the best food / experience we have had in Rome. We come every year so we have tried most places, and although the piazzas can be seen as “touristy” they are our favourite place to eat because the scenery is so beautiful and we love to people watch. First time here at Romoletto and everything was absolutely exquisite! We shared the antipasti for two which is a MUST TRY!! It’s only €48 and you get SO MUCH FOOD!! The fried pizza is insanely good. We actually thought it must have been €48pp but nope. We then shared one of their pasta dishes which was absolutely divine. Our son had a pizza which was amazing too, and their tiramisu was perfect. Honestly can’t recommend this place enough. We have seen the big queues for osteria da fortunata and can only say (after eating there two nights ago) - don’t believe the hype. The food at Romoletto was better and the service was by far superior. The perfect way to end our annual...
Read moreThe food was okay overall. The grilled lamb was rather bland, but the pizza was good.
The service, however, was disappointing. We had to call the servers several times just to place an order or to pay. The man who seemed to be the main server did not make us feel welcome and even tossed the tissues and cutlery into the middle of our table. My travel partner’s food arrived, but mine did not. After she had already finished her meal — about 15 minutes later — I asked about my order, and it turned out they had forgotten it. It finally arrived around 10 minutes after that, and although the younger server apologized and wanted to compensate with a limonata, the experience was far from smooth.
I chose this restaurant based on the glowing reviews, so we were quite shocked that our visit turned out to be...
