During my recent trip to Rome, I had the pleasure of dining at "La Mare di Daniel," a hidden gem in the heart of the city. Owned by the warm and inviting Daniel, this restaurant is a testament to the beauty of seafood cuisine.
Upon entering, I was greeted by Daniel, whose passion for his establishment is palpable. The interior exudes a cozy, authentic ambiance, making you feel like a guest at a friend's home rather than a customer in a restaurant.
The food was nothing short of exquisite. Each dish, crafted with the freshest seafood, sang with flavors that can only come from ingredients sourced with care and respect. The menu, though not extensive, showcased a variety of seafood that caters to all palates, from classic dishes to innovative creations.
A standout dish was the Oyster and Salmon , tender and perfectly charred, served with a side of delicately flavored lemon-infused potatoes. The linguine al frutti di mare was another highlight, featuring a medley of shellfish and crustaceans in a sauce that was both light and richly flavored.
Daniel's choice of wine is another aspect worth noting. With a handpicked selection, each bottle complemented the seafood perfectly. We chose a local white wine, recommended by Daniel himself, which was crisp, refreshing, and enhanced the flavors of our meal beautifully.
The service was impeccable. Attentive yet unobtrusive, the staff ensured our dining experience was comfortable and enjoyable. Daniel's presence added a personal touch, as he often checked in to ensure our satisfaction.
In conclusion, "La Mare di Daniel" is a must-visit for anyone looking to experience authentic Roman seafood cuisine. Its combination of fresh, high-quality ingredients, expert preparation, and warm hospitality makes it a standout in Rome's culinary scene. This restaurant is a true local treasure, and I can't...
Read moreWe were there on June-27’23. We did a prior research, as we tried to find a better selection of food than just regular pasta & pizza, so the seafood was highlighted & reviews very high. Unfortunately, our experience was quite disappointing. The food was simple and lacked the deliciousness we had hoped for. The portion sizes were small, e.g for the main fish entre (28 eu) I got a tiny ~100 gr piece of nothing special one. The prices were high, especially for items like oysters (10 eu for 2 small ones: 10 times more than I pay in my local groceries in central Canada) The service was lukewarm and could have been more attentive. The staff seemed indifferent, and the overall experience lacked the warmth and attentiveness that one would expect in a restaurant setting. Furthermore, the location of the restaurant posed challenges, as it was situated on a drive-through narrow street: no view & cars driving by our table. Based on my experience, I would advise travelers not to expect anything interesting or delicious from this restaurant. The food was average at best, and the combination of small portions, high prices, lukewarm service, and an inconvenient location made for a disappointing dining experience. It is my hope that the restaurant takes this feedback constructively and works towards improving the quality of...
Read moreThis was hands down one of the most disappointing dining experiences I’ve had in a long time.
Let’s start with the wait – we sat for over 30 minutes waiting for food in a restaurant that was barely even half full.
Then came the food, and things only got worse. The salmon and oysters were clearly not fresh – borderline off. It’s insulting to serve raw seafood in that condition. The lobster pasta? A complete joke. The pasta was undercooked, tough, and flavourless. It tasted like something someone tried making after watching one bad YouTube tutorial. Nothing about it felt Italian or professional.
This place charges premium prices but delivers below-average food and substandard service. Either they think customers can’t tell the difference, or they just don’t care. Either way – I won’t be back, and I suggest you think twice before wasting your time...
