Throughout our trip to Rome we decided to never dine at those restaurants in busy tourist spots with waiters trying to wave you in. Instead we looked for restaurants in the quiet side streets a short walk away. This was one such restaurant. Hands down this has to be the best food I've had so far. The veal risotto was incredibly flavourful and tender, and the home-baked bread was perfect to mop up the sauces. The bucatini all'amatriciana is also magnificent. The waiter is very friendly, speaks very good English and recommended some very good local wine. We can also attest to the tiramsu being very good!
As my wife is pregnant we have to be more cautious with dairy. The waiter reassured us that all their cheeses are pasteurised and safe to eat, including their tiramsu, much to her joy.
We visited during Wednesday lunchtime and the place was pretty quiet. During our meal, not a single foreigner entered. Only locals. That surely speaks to how good they are! Frankly this place is underrated. Our time is short in Rome but I'd happily...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe wandered in, seduced by the menu and the cute little outdoor tables near Campo deā Fiori, and bravely chose Nonnaās 4-course āsurpriseā menu (ā¬45). Spoiler: the surprise is how much food one human can actually eat.
Starters alone could have fed an army: giant Genovese meatball, antipasti, bread pomodoro, fried anchovies, mozzarellaāyou get the picture. Then came giant ravioli (because size does matter), followed by⦠more meatballs with potato wedges. By then, we were one forkful away from rolling ourselves down the cobblestones.
Dessert, however, always has its own stomach: affogato, tiramisu, Nutella-stuffed bomboloniāmamma mia.
Service? Perfectly balancedāattentive without hovering. One tiny suggestion: since meatballs made an early cameo, it wouldāve been nice to switch up the finale with a fish dish or something lighter.
All in all, we loved it. Go hungry, leave happy (and possibly spherical).
PS: no photos were taken during the meal, be surprised with...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreStopped in here last week on a whim after being unable to find another restaurant in the area, and soo glad we did because this ended up being not only the best meal I had on our 3 week trip around Europe, but probably the best pasta I've had in my life to date.
We ordered the Spaghettoni alla Carbonara and the Bucatini all'Amatriciana and both were absolutely amazing, so much flavor, sauce was just the right consistency, and it was clear much love was put into making it. I audibly laughed after my first bite, I couldn't comprehend how good it was. Best spritz of the trip as well.
The staff was also so welcoming and friendly, the manager spent time speaking with us at length about the rich history behind the restaurant (Rosina being the grandmother of the head chef), along with sharing travel stories with us.
Whether you're visiting Rome or live in the area, Rosina Cucina Di Casa is a must try, definitely worth traveling out of your way...
