This is obviously a touristy place, but not exclusively, and it makes absolutely the best gluten-free pizza. With a bit of buckwheat flour in the mix, the resulting taste is more earthy and savory, and not as sweet and generic as many typical gluten-free options. I’d even prefer it over a gluten one if I could still have any. Otherwise, the topping ingredients were quality, the spritzes were generous, and the wine selection was good. With all the restaurant options in Rome, I did manage to drag my long-suffering husband here on repeat during our stay. He found his gluten-filled dishes enjoyable, he had to admit. The service was friendly, and the owner was very hospitable. As a celiac, I felt they took it seriously to avoid cross contamination and developed their own gf flour mixes with quality and taste in mind. Just as in any other place that serves both gluten and gluten-free options, you have to be careful when ordering in a mixed party, and it’s better to confirm if the dish was made gluten-free, just to avoid any human error during the order placement. There was a bit of mix up in our order on one of the evenings, and the staff responded so promptly and with earnest horror at the prospect of feeding gluten to a celiac. I was impressed. Now, I need to devise a way how I can fly back to Rome from NYC to get...

I was looking for a restaurant with nice gluten-free options and I remembered I had read good reviews about it so decided to check it out! I had gluten-free spaghetti with sea bass, and zucchini and a nice glass of white wine. When I had the first bite I realized that there was no salt at all (since they have 2 separate kitchens as they are gluten-free certified, it seems the Chef had completely forgotten to put salt in the pasta boiler of the gluten-free kitchen. They had also forgotten to put the lemon zest on top as it showed on the menu…BUT…they handled it so graciously and that’s why I’m giving it a 5 * rating. They offered to remake the dish from scratch, when I said no need, they brought me the salt, pepper and olive oil (excellent by the way) as I had requested and the lemon zest so the dish became actually really delicious as it was meant to be. Then to make up for the mishap, they offered me a dessert on the house and recommended their specialty, the Sanpietrino (a sort of brownie) with a delicious custard cream and maracuja jam next to it . It was SO delicious that I told one of the owners I was glad the Chef had forgotten the salt 😂 The staff was also very friendly and helpful! Next time I’m trying their gluten-free bread as apparently they...

Don’t know why this is so highly rated.

They messed up our order (wanted carbonara and bolognese, we got 2 bolognese versions), they then tried to convince us to have that instead of the orignal order.

Fine, no worries, problem is that the pasta was the blandest thing on the planet. Neither of our dishes had any sort of seasoning.

The other bolognese was literally bland tomato sauce, pasta and a few bits of some unknown meat.

My bolognese was similar, except it had a lot of mystery minced meat (seemed like spam mashed with a fork), bland tomato sauce and pasta.

We were even debating if we should add oregano/basil/salt/pepper to the dish, before it arrived (saw some condiment shakers and were wondering whats inside or if we need them), figured it would be the ultimate insult to spice our foods since “that’s the chef’s trademark dish”.

I must be able to foresee the future, because that was the worst pasta I ever had in my entire life.

I ate it because I was hungry, tho, and we did pepper and salt the dishes to give them some taste at least.

Anyway, they were both very overpriced (1 coke 4 eur - my bolognese 14, other bolognese variation 11 eur) and really bad.

Don’t waste your apetite and money...

Great food and service! I had the tonarelli pasta with burrata and anchovies. The sauce was perfectly creamy and the pasta was perfectly al dente. They're also very gluten-free safe. They have a separate place mats for Celiacs which I think is a great idea for easy identification. There's also a separate sealed pack of cutleries and gluten-free labeled plates for Celiacs. Unfortunately when we went, the pasta they used was a commercial gluten-free pasta. They said it was not what they usually serve and it was only because their supplier is on holidays so they're out of stock of the good GF pasta. I hope they just find another source of handmade pastas instead of sacrificing some days/weeks with bad quality store-bought pasta. If you're lucky, they also have a very sweet and behaved toy poodle dog that's roaming around the restaurant.

We had an excellent time at Mercato Hostaria. Our meal was fantastic, best Melezano Parmigiano I have had in Italy. Beyond the food though was the service. Absolutely top notch. We were 6 people so that always adds deeper requirements for service. The waiters were attentive and understanding and spoke enough English that we could all understand each other. They we extremely accommodating for my elderly parents, down to helping organize a taxi at the end of the night to pick them up right beside the restaurant, which is a bit of an adventure in Campo di Fiori! It was also fun to be in the square when the Italy game was on, what a great atmosphere, with every restaurant playing the game the whole square was buzzing. I would recommend this restaurant for the food, the service and the location!
