L'Orto Bistrò — Restaurant in Turin

Fantastic vegan restaurant/cafe in the heart of historic Turin just a couple of minutes walk from the Cathedral. We had to wait 20 minutes for a table it was very busy especially with it being Christmas time. Decent gluten free options but maybe a bit limited. I had 2 sides instead of a main course. Russian salad and mushrooms both were delicious. The portions are very light and most come with a small number of roasted potato wedges. The pizza is very thick more like a topped focaccia. The vegan hot dog (not gf) is Beyond meat as is the burger and my son thought it was amazing! Portions seemed small but we all left very full and managed dessert. They offer a gluten free tiramisu and Pistacchietto which was delicious. Staff very friendly and helpful and double checked our gluten free orders were correct. Cross contamination aware with everything wiped down and gf dishes prepared separately....

TLDR: A solid vegan lunch place to eat, but the parent restaurant for dinner L'Orto gia Salsamentario is better.

Service: Standard service in Northern Italy. Not rude, but quick and efficient.

Atmosphere: Good outdoor seating in a historic square with a nice statue. Indoors is clean and modern.

Food: Overall, good food, but not nearly as fresh as its parent restaurant. Many of the dishes are similar but just not as tasty. The owner is very nice and quite an awesome guy. A good first meal in Torino and we would come back if in the area. If you are deciding on restaurants, pick another for lunch and go to L'Orto for dinner across the river. You won't be...

The pastries were nice but I was expecting a bit more since the descriptions were more exciting than the experience.

I am confident that the rest of the menu is likely wonderful as my husbands pasta was delicious, without a doubt!

The russian salad was not good at all and I should've ordered something else for sure. I was sadly also disappointed with the Pistacchietto as it was mostly cream rather than a dessert with substance.
