Tourists beware. Triple check your bill and clarify what you’re getting. They charged us 50 euros for a pizza that wasn’t on menu (on top of that nothing on the menu was 50 euros) and for alcoholic drinks that didn’t have alcohol. Be aware that setting fees are 6 euros each. We found out later when we had already paid the overcharge. On top of that we did a nice tip. Tried calling them several times next few days to resolve situation but was told to call back each time, basically given the runaround. Really would like a reply from manager if you’re reading this. Totally unacceptable….

Dante Manager, thank you for replying 10/1st.. I find it difficult that a restaurant can sneak in surprise penalty like this without any clarification.

To begin with sorry for the misunderstanding. My deepest sincerity. We never tried to take advantage about the pizza situation. We told the waiter we have an all strictly vegan guest. At best the waiter offered a spaghetti with sauce. Our guest had been eating pasta with sauce past 5 days since arriving in Italy. She wanted something different but due to limited choices she ended up ordering the waiters recommendation as well but due to mix communication the spaghetti was canceled.

Our guest is strictly vegan. We wanted her to eat with us and of all places Dante as recommended on Michelins guide. We drove from Parma to Verona just for the restaurant experience. The waiter was well aware she would be having a vegan pizza from next door (I actually don’t know exactly the pizza place as it was behind my seating side) early on in the seating and ordering process of your restaurant. We had asked for permission early on long before our meals arrived. The waiter appeared to have understood she was all vegan and was accommodating. I don’t know what happened in the end.

Even when the vegan pizza came your waiter kindly brought out a plate and even assisted with transferring the pizza to her plate.

The waiter did not tell us of the surprise pizza charge, rules, or conditions beforehand. As we left we signed the bill and left a cash tip.

I’m sure if we knew we weren’t welcome or to be of any inconvenience we would’ve all kindly left or ordered food to go.

Her total vegan pizza was merely 11 euros. Now she feels extremely devastated.

She is also a restaurant owner in USA and she said she’s never done anything like this when customers have special diet and they have friends ordering entrees and drinks.

Another guest at our table is also part of Canirac Group of Mexico that does restaurants review felt this was strange.

Waiting on your end for a reply 10/9/2021.. to date no reply. Saw on trip advisor they are just as bad with other customers service charges and bills. Seriously a nice restaurant doesn’t need to play...

Very disappointed. Returning for our 10th wedding anniversary after hosting our wedding reception here - not that this made any difference except to turn some lights on to take photos. My husband had taken a long time to find this restaurant again (I had a surprise wedding), and the restaurant venue had been organised by our wedding coordinator.

We chose to eat inside because of our previous memories. The service was not great and certainly not fast. ( I also didn't appreciate stale smoke breath from what appeared to be a senior member of staff.) The restaurant definitely wasn't very accommodating for allergies.

I was served the wrong food and ended up eating once everyone else was finished. Because of the fuss regarding allergies I hadn't realised that sides needed to be ordered separately, and waitor didn't point this out, so I ended up with 2 small lamb chops after my leaves with flowers starter. It all took so long and not in a pleasant, food experience, wonderful ambience kind of way.

A basket of cold bread rolls sat on the table with some breadsticks, but no oil and vinegar and no side plates. Everyone else's food was ok but not exceptional.

As I said, the whole experience left us very disappointed but we did manage to get some photos and show the restaurant to our children as they were too young to remember being there for...

Without dinner reservations for our party of 7, we kind of got lucky and stumbled on Caffè Dante Bistrot during our final night in Verona. It was a great find. The service was excellent and the food was delicious. I had the beef cheek braised in Amarone, which I enjoyed quite a lot. Perhaps the best feature of Caffè Dante, however, is the setting - right inside the Piazza dei Signori. Overlooked by most tourists, as you have to take a narrow alleyway to get to it, the piazza was a little bit magical for us. As we settled in to our meal we began to look around and notice the fabulous history of the buildings and statues, including that of Dante Alighieri himself, standing tall and imposing just a few feet from the outdoor tables. So if you have the pleasure of dining at Caffè Dante Bistrot, be sure to look around you and take in the history, art, and culture that seem to weep from every stone in the beautiful...

Edit: So good we came back for lunch. Juliette the waitress and Gabrielle the somm are amazing. My companion said “The tartare would be my last meal” Amazing food in an upscale but laidback environment. The Beef Tartare was the best I’ve ever had in all of Europe. Creative plates at a good price. The waiter was friendly and attentive. The Somm recommended a great bottle of wine in the local region. Gave us just enough information to make a good choice and know a little about what we were drinking, without any level of pretentiousness. Obvious he could talk a lot more about wine but picked up on our needs. Well behaved kid and dog friendly. Thinking about going back for lunch just for the tartare.
