Great food, great prices, sub-optimal treatment if you're not Italian.
We decided to come here on the basis of a recommendation. It's set in a beautiful old square, and sitting outdoors in it was wonderful. It was very busy at around 8:30pm, but we were seated quickly.
This place has a wide range of choice (and a heavy menu!) full of pizzas, pastas, meats and salads, as well as a range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Bread and some bread sticks came complimentary (although the bread was a bit chewy with no butter) which was a nice touch.
The food portions were excellent and the price very reasonable (13 Euros for a duck and truffle pasta!). I left very satisfied and it tasted pretty authentic and flavourful too.
My only complaint - the service. Whilst the waiters were quite attentive, we found we were being forgotten over the natives. The waiters seemed quite cold with us, quickly taking our order and running off to talk to other tables. Food was placed on our table as though we were dangerous creatures, and the waiters hardly made any effort to speak any English even though we didn't know a word of Italian (and they knew it because they fully understood us). I felt it was a let-down in that respect.
Overall, definitely give it a try. I hope my experience with the waiters...
Read moreA lovely spot in the square that you must visit if you’re looking for late night dinner.
The service is fast and food was served surprisingly fast, but the waiters don’t understand English very well (which I don’t blame them for because it’s an Italian restraint), and that’s something to keep in mind for tourists.
The food was overall very good. The bread for starters was a bit hard and served in low quantities : this was probably the worst part of the food but the bread is complementary regardless. The started looked fresh and tasted fresh, with the mains following this pattern. I order the Fettuccine Gamberini, and I couldn’t recommend it enough : the absolute best restaurant Fettuccine Gamberini I’ve ever had with great taste and texture without any post-food aftertaste which is common with this dish. It was so good I ordered it twice which is rare from me. The pizza was average nothing special but it does the job, I’d stick to other main courses.
The deserts were delicious, with the Vegetarian Panna Cotta tasting amazing. The ice cream is extravagant as well, definitely a restaurant you can just have deserts at if you want.
Overall a great spot to visit, without being too commercialised...
Read moreAs this was our first visit to Impero Verona having read numerous reviews for this and other similar restaurants we were looking forward to the experience. However from the moment we arrived we were neither acknowledged nor greeted as a potential customer. Is this a deliberate policy ? Surely a warm welcome and an attempt to encourage possible customers to remain or even return at a later date would be good. Or does this restaurant not need to encourage more customers ? We eventually were directed to a table where a grumpy waiter proceeded to throw down our cutlery before walking off. Our final waiter was more polite but not over attentive. The food was served quickly and was, as we expected, suitably delicious. The setting is amazing however the emphasis on speed and efficiency is at the lack of real genuine hospitality, care and warmth to the customers. Particularly those looking for available tables who we observed were ignored blatantly on several occasions. Surely a change of approach would be good...
