I visited this caffe when I visited Verona with my boyfriend in the end of Dec 2015. We stayed in the hotel called Albergo Mazzanti, which is at the center of the city and close to the noisiest street and markets. We randomly walked around trying to find a restaurant in the less noisy street and we found this caffe near our hotel. The caffe is spacious, for it having a lot of seats in the open outside the caffe. We sat inside because it was cold, and we ordered some pasta. The owner was a very nice guy, whose name is Jin (guess it is because it is shown on his business card). He is Chinese second generation in Italy, very young in his 20s. He greeted us and told us he has been running the caffe for 8 years. It is impressive! I appreciate greatly of his generosity by letting homeless people, foreigners (non-Italian people I mean, such as the meditteranean people) or hard labour workers using the washrooms without buying anything from him - as everyone knows washrooms in Italy cost money sometimes. Jin speaks fluent Italian because he went to school in Italy when he was a kid. Despite the fact that some people don't go to his caffe because of his ethnicity (some can be discriminating), he got groups of Italian friends (as I saw on that night) to visit his caffe and had some drinks with him and chit chatting. Food was good, and with lower price compared with some nearby restaurants. The caffe also has a great collection of different alcohols. I like the friendly atmosphere too. Because of the long distance from my home and Verona, I may not visit the caffe again, but I definitely recommend you to go there, and if I have a chance to visit Verona again, I will pay a second...
Read moreI had an incredibly disappointing experience at this restaurant. Firstly, the food is far from authentic Italian cuisine. Before we could even finish sitting down, the service issues began. They had the audacity to charge us for a glass of water, something that every other restaurant provides for free.
To add insult to injury, the server was extremely rude and unprofessional. We were rushed to place our order and treated with indifference throughout our short time there. The final straw was a $5 charge that was never explained to us.
No wonder previous reviews for this restaurant average around 3.2 stars. It's clear that our experience is not unique, and this establishment consistently fails to meet basic standards of quality and service.
I highly recommend avoiding this place if you're looking for genuine Italian food and decent service. There are plenty of other restaurants that value their customers and provide a much better...
Read moreFriendliest staff we've had in Italy. I'm slightly confused at the rating that the other customers have. It's indeed not a "fine dining" establishment but it's got a good value and staff. Many restaurants we've stopped at in Italy so far didn't have the sizes of their drinks in their menu, but this one did which cut down on having to ask the waiter.
We personally ordered chicken breast with salad and roast beef with potato. It was brought on a unique platter, but it was slightly small for dishes that required mixing, such as the salad.
It does not have water sprinklers to cool you down but the alleyway has a nice draft that kept us cool during our lunch.
I would say it's a good stop for tourists looking for an affordable and...
