Wow, wow, wow - Not enough words to adequately describe how amazing this place is, absolutely a must visit if you are in Italy (Not just Verona!). We have just visited Rome & Florence and this place has taken top position without a doubt and can't see any possibility of anywhere taking over it🥇🏆
Marco instantly treated both me and my boyfriend as family, what a fantasticly welcoming, frienfly and warm individual. We overheard him speaking to a table in German (their native language) which was phenomenal and he really turned our day around, which so far had been pretty miserable due to the accomodation we had booked being a scam! So faced with the potential of nowhere to stay in a foreign country which isn't ideal we luckily managed to get sorted after a very stressful afternoon the atmosphere at Gemmas just washed all of it away🥰
Let's not forget the food & drinks, I requested a common drink in the UK which doesn't appear to be common here in Italy however that was absoluteky no problem - Gemmas was more than happy to accommodate the request (Apologies didnt get the bar persons name but they also did not stop, serving drink after drink at rapid pace - The table next to us ordered an Espresso and it was on their table in Id say less than a minute). The pizza was just unreal, fresh tasty ingredients just done completely and utterly right, never mind the unbelievable desserts. Finished off with a Limencello shot with our new friend Marco🫶🏻 this whole experience as well as food for a small fee of €53 for 2 pizzas, desserts and alcoholic drinks.
This has honestly completely made our trip, we will hold such fond memories of this place until we hopefully get the chance to return again in the...
Read moreGemma has very good pizza. The crust is light and very digestable. The pizzas are beautiful and made with quality ingredients. The service is friendly, fast and efficient (Bravo Marco et al.!). The wine list is limited but well selected. Ditto the beer selection. The venue is open, clean and modern. On the other hand, the crusts of all our pizzas were soupy in the middle==ingredients too moist? Sitting too long before being baked? Cool oven? Undercooked? Whatever the reason this should not happen in a place that wants to be known for consistent quality. Also, the room, though attractive, is cavernous and open, with hard surfaces that amplify the background noise and make dinner conversations difficult. Finally, on peak days you are only allowed a 1.5 hour dinner slot--too little time to enjoy a leisurely dinner. So, Gemma offers good pizza and drinks with wonderful service. Its a great place to come with friends for a quick pizza and beer before moving on to do something else. When you order, let the staff know you do not appreciate a soupy crust! Next time there, we will try and see if anything can be...
Read moreThis pizzeria has it all: the location, the food, and the staff.
📍Location: It’s located in a nice little street and has outdoor and indoor seating. We sat outdoors overlooking the nice, romantic buildings of Verona and a garden with calming pine trees. The indoor seating is air conditioned, with a fun interior design. Everything was pristinely clean.
🍕 Food: The menu is very thoughtfully designed and written. For example, it mentions which ingredients are added before vs after baking. They have classical, traditional pizzas, as well as their own pizza creations. We tried one of each style and they were both equally amazing. Their pizza dough is next level, including the whole wheat (integrale) option. In fact, we discovered later on that “Gemma” is actually the name of their sourdough starter!
🧍♂️ Staff: our waiter, Marco, was exceptionally friendly, conversational, and upbeat. His personality and humor added a lot to our experience. We felt very welcomed overall.
Easily one of the best pizza places we’ve visited on our...
