Very mixed feelings about this place. We visited twice during our stay in Verona. First night the food (rib eye and fillet in Amarone) was so good we decided to go back the following night. Food again good but service, which had been mainly okay the first night - there was a blip when after ordering more wine and waiting a while we were brought the wrong wine but it was fine and the same price so we didn’t make an issue and just put it down to them being busy. We did notice a young couple come in and ask for a table to be told there was nothing when there we’re clearly free tables which we thought strange. But second night we sat outside having been inside the first night. They had two female staff who were incredibly surly and unfriendly, slapping menus down on the table with no welcome. The waiter came to take our order then when we hesitated as we wanted to see a wine by the glass list he pointed to a blackboard behind us and then walked off. But what really put us off was later a young German girl came up, she was obviously dining alone, and politely asked if they had a menu with German translations and was given a short abrupt response by the male waiter. Eventually the German girl wandered off clearly having been made to few very unwelcome, to the smirking of one of the female staff. We had intended on going back on our last night as the food was the best we’d had but decided to go somewhere with friendlier staff. It’s a real shame as the meals were excellent. I wouldn’t have thought with the hospitality industry the way it is places can afford for poor service to result in customers...
Read moreAs a tourist I was delighted to get a table for one last Tuesday, 6th June about 12.30 A very nice waitress helped me choose wine and two dishes. An engaging friendly waiter served me my prosciutto, recommended on the blackboard, with that I enjoyed a glass of Custoza. I hadn’t planned on more however the staff were pleasant as is the interior so I had a very tasty carpaccio of beef and a very rich rewarding glass of red, a single grape variety. This was a real treat, everything about it. I asked for the bill and glanced at it, there were two errors, I called the waitress and she corrected it for me with a mild apology, the difference was €7.50! I believe. When I went to the counter to pay the bill the other member of staff, she with pigtails was standing at the till engaged with her phone. There was no eye contact or apology for the wrong bill which she had registered. She completely blanked me, I might say aggressively, from the time I went to pay until after I got back my credit card. As I’d had such a nice experience I didn’t want to leave without some acknowledgement from her so I said “Senora”, she ignored me, then i said again “ senora senora”, when she finally looked up I pointed to my face with a big smile, I don’t know the word in Italian. The Waiter became aware of something or...
Read moreIf we only ate here the once it would have been 5 stars across the board. The first night we ate here, early week, about 7.30pm, the place was quiet, the owners are warm and welcoming, the girl that waited our table was lovey and recommended a really nice wine and not expensive, the food was very tasty and fresh, we had tortellini in sage butter, a pasta with horse Ragu, and rabbit with polenta, all delicious, we could not fault a single thing. Then we came back on our last night in Verona, a Friday. We were seated and after 10 minutes had not received any menu or drink. The owner was having a long discussion with a miserable girl behind the counter. My fella had to shout mi scusi to the girl behind the counter 3 times and she looked everywhere but at us (there were only 6 people there!) Finally we caught the owners attention and got a menu. 1 minute later a girl came to take our order! The food was just as good thank the Lord (ravioli, carbonara, Rib Eye, Sea Bass) but the staff let the place down. Not attentive or engaging. The one behind the counter was the worst, face that could turn milk into cottage cheese, when we went to pay she was chewing gum loudly and only cracked a smile when we put a tip in the jar. This place could be perfect, but they need to sort...
