Via Arche Scaligere, 4 , 37121 Verona VR, Italy - this is the address of the medieval house that belonged to the family of Cagnolo Nogarola , supposedly the real name of Romeo. The small plaque “Casa di Cagnolo Nogarola detto Romeo (sec. XIV)” is the sign that you are looking at the right place. To enjoy this site you need to use your imagination - and do some homework to know times when Romeo and Juliette lived ( XIV century). Walk slowly from house of Juliette to the Piazza delle Erbe and spend some time there as Romeo and his friends would do. Sit there and absorb the beauty and very special spirit of Verona - it is fascinating because there is no noise of large city and this quiet environment takes you back to older times without cars and airplanes. Then walk to the house of Romeo as he would do after saying goodbye to his friends. You will see very old brick walls that look more like fortress than a house- the life was dangerous in medieval days, especially if you had powerful enemies. Pay attention and you will see that there was much more on the outside of wall in the past - like incorporated into the brick wall crossed swords , sculptures, fountain, columns; the balcony is still there but it looks like the entrance door was not used for a while… Have your lunch or dinner at adjoining restaurant- I chose the one on the right side of the Romeo’s house, their soup and mushroom polenta were delicious!! From there walk back and towards the nearest church of Saint Mary “Antica”- maybe it was the one where Romeo’s family was going??? Out of all Italian cities Verona was the most emotional, personalized and connected to history...
Read moreWe were first greeted into the restaurant by a young female giving us snooty looks as our waiter . Just because we were Hispanic/American speaking English and Spanish we were treated different and laughed at when asked about any inconvenience . When it was time to order we ordered appetizers and entrees and we were told we had to order both at once so we did. We were brought the appetizers but waited an hour for the entrees which never arrived. When confronting the waiters we were laughed at for asking where our food was, showing us the finest disrespect in any restaurant in Verona. Our appetizers were so average it was not even worth the money. So due to all these inconveniences we wanted to leave and when asked for the bill the waiter continued to sass us and disrespect us even further. I do not recommend this restaurant one bit the beef pasta looked like a pile of horse poop when it passed us to the other table (which was served after us). Worst service in Verona for sure I’d rather go to a school cafeteria to eat and it would be better....
Read moreWarning. The food is not only overpriced it is also badly cooked. Bland pasta with duck, a medium meat that is bleeding as if the cow was just slaughtered in front of our table. When we asked if they could redo the meat, they brought it back after 5 minutes with the bun for the meat dripping with fat and the meat was still bleeding.Seasoning seems to be non existent too. If I could give 0 stars for the first time, this would be it. Never have I ever not eaten my food, stood up and went away but...
