The service is terrible. We made a reservation for the outside area and after waiting 20 minutes we still didn’t receive any drinks or menus. The table next to us was sitting already since a while there and was also unable to get anything besides of water. When we finally received the water the glasses were fresh out of the dishwasher and therefore extremely warm. We just decided to wait for them to cool down (20 minutes) because our request for ice cubes was ignored. After another 20 minutes we received the information that a) they don’t serve Prosecco - they have several pages about Prosecco in their wine menu - and b) all Proseccos they have are sweet. We asked for another waiter and finally got a bottle of dry Prosecco. Afterwards we ordered some starters to share, but the waiter was unable to bring us another plate after several requests. The rest of the dinner was fine, but nothing special considering the price and the portions, especially the gnocchi were more than underwhelming. After considering a desert but being unable to receive information about them we went for some limoncello that would have been better from any supermarket and was served warm. The part that amazed us the most was the obligatory 15% charge for the service (20% after the opera) that just wasn’t deserved as we even had to ask 4 times for the bill. Yes, you have a partial view on the arena, but besides that you won’t miss anything if you go...
Read moreThis was a fantastic place with excellent ambiance, service, food, and wine, all with view of the Arena of Verona, but just off the main area of the crowds of Piazza Bra; so this is a wonderful place for a more quiet/private meal, with better dining experience than in in the cafes of Piazza Bra or Piazze Erbe (and we have eaten in these piazzas in 4 previous trips to Verona). The price for this finer dining is only 1/3 or less than in American restaurants and 1/2 of that in Paris in our experience, and this place has many fine wines of Veneto area in half bottle formats for couples who don't want a full bottle or have a "house wine" without knowing what you are getting, as is the case in many other places in Italy these days. We are a somewhat older couple who may not consider romance as top priority for our choices of restaurants, but we would recommend this place as well for a special meal for couples in the city of Romeo and Juliet. My husband is also an excellent cook of Italian heritage, and he thought it was excellent. We highly recommend this place to have something besides the panini of All'Antico Vinaio. Altho cheap, that place is not having a REAL Italian eating experience...it is just sidewalk fast-food, and NOT at all representative of the culture that appreciates a Mediterranean diet that is appreciated by a sit-down meal of...
Read moreWhat an opera tourist trap! The food is of the lowest quality, but made up as if it were fancy, and it's absolutely ridiculous. We had gnocchi that tasted like they came from a can served a slate dish like it was 1990, a completely insipid, unseasoned mushroom dish served under a cloche; a piece of meat covered in artificial demi-glace, covered in a sheet of leaf gold that made it look like it was wrapped in a survival blanket (which wasn't a bad idea, given that it was barely warm and the plate was stone cold), and a piece of poultry on a red wine sauce that had so much corn starch in it I could pull it of the meat in one piece. Both accompanied by a few tired potatoes well past their prime. When the bill came with a 15% service surcharge automatically added, we were already so fed up we didn't even argue. I assume it is advertised somewhere on the last pages of the menu, but I had failed to spot it. The service was okay, apart from the occasional 'opera' singing performances of some of the staff which maybe Charles Ives could have appreciated, but for our more tonally-inclined ears where only a fitting accompagnement for these sad...
