Osteria La Mandorla — Restaurant in Verona

Cozy joint to get a glass of wine or craft beer. We stopped here after slipping out early from an opera at the Verona Arena because we wanted something cold to drink and this place had a wide selection of wines including Spumante.

In addition, this bar offered some small eats like arancini balls. They were a little cold and not as fresh as we expected but the staff was very friendly and spent time explaining the provenance of certain wines they were offering on their specials board. I would stick to the drinks at this place.

We ordered a few drinks and people watched through the doorman onto a cute side street (which is just around the corner from the main arena square)....

Cute little wine bar around the main shopping street, friendly staff and great wine! My fav after dinner was the Recioto, a sweet red wine originally famous from this region, a precursor to the great Amarone, apparently they messed up the process of Recioto and in turn was born the Amarone, which is now the most sought after Italian red. Mi spiace ma devo condividere un' esperienza poco positiva. Per la prima volta in questo locale chiedo al cameriere se posso accomodarmi ad un tavolo e mi viene confermata l'opportunità. Attendo dieci minuti che qualcuno venga a chiedermi di ordinare da bere ma questo non succede mai: incrocio lo sguardo con baristi e camerieri in segno di comprensione ma loro nemmeno un accenno a come dovessi agire. Affamato decido di alzarmi per andare a chiedere due calici di vino e polpette al bancone e vengo servito senza nessun convenevole da parte dei ragazzi. Il tempo di finire il bicchiere e le due polpette ( pochi minuti causa fame), un ragazzo fa capolino al nostro tavolo ritirando subito i calici vuoti come segno per liberare il tavolo. Ci alziamo e paghiamo. Tutto questo è avvenuto scambiando a malapena un grazie, senza nemmeno l'ombra di un sorriso o una parola per aiutarci a comprendere le modalità di ordine al bancone o semplicemente per empatizzare coi propri clienti.
