I am from NY and can be very particular about my pizza. I’m always intrigued when I see a NY pizza sign out of NY, especially in a foreign country. I’ve tried a few pizza spots in Oki but just learned about this spot so I decided why not give it a try. It’s located in the fun American Village which has a lot of parking lots but can get really busy on the weekends. Luckily for us we got a great spot on a Sunday night and walked to the pizza shop two minutes down the road. I instantly loved the outside look. As soon as we opened the doors I was hit with the familiar crust smell I’ve come to call home. The inside was just as cute as the outside, following a NY theme pizza place. The pies were huge- just like from back home! We ordered a pie to share and sat down to wait. I thought the ninja bears that resembled the ninja turtles was a cute touch. Soon after we arrived the pace picked up and it seemed like a popular spot. Thankfully there was seating both indoors and outdoors to accommodate more people. We ordered half a mushroom and half a meat Jesus pie which was huge! When the pizza arrived I was starving and was very optimistic. It passed the smell test but would it pass the fold test? A true NY style pizza can be folded into a triangle and this one passed for sure. I took a bite and thought it was pretty good. The thin crisp crust was cheesy and I liked the toppings. I wasn’t a fan of the marinara sauce though. It needed to be sweeter or less tomato tasting and there needed to be more on the slice. Overall, I think it was a good pizza and hit a lot of the marks. It’s a great spot to hit up while you’re in AV, so swing by and...
Read morePizza Stand NY is the most convenient and satisfying pizza spot I have been to in Okinawa. What makes it convenient? The ability to purchase a slice or pie, with none, one, or a diversity of toppings. What makes it satisfying? The delicious pizza that they serve. You can compliment the pizza with some beer or soft drinks. Also, the price is right and get your bang for your buck [¥].
The staff is friendly and efficient. Top notch service. If you order by the slice and dine in/eat outside, the pizza will be delivered to you. If you order to go, they will provide a nice to-go box. The pizza slices do not take much time to come out, which is wonderful! Especially, if you are on the move. I haven’t ordered a pie because two slices and a pale ale works out well for me.
The atmosphere is very chilled. It has a NY kind of vibe. There is a small dinning area inside. Most of the seating is outside undercover. So you can enjoy NY style pizza on rainy days (don’t recommend eating outside if it is rainy and windy). If you find yourself in American Village (AV) recommend that you stop by and give it a try. I would have posted a photo, but I already demolished my pizza prior to this post. 🤤
I hope that you find this post hopefully during your Okinawa adventure, whether it is for a short time, long time, or all...
Read moreWent here due to the great reviews and to try that "famous NY pizza" the muricans rave about. Being European, I generally go for Italian Pizza, so I was interested as it seems many US people think this is authentic.
Well - I can just say - if this is NY Pizza, I feel sorry for the NewYorkers. The pizza was bland and the crust was bland and really hard (usually what happens with dry yeast and not enough fermentation).
It explains also why they have to give you garlic powder, cheese, oregano, hot sauce and chilli flakes on the table. After adding enough of those powders, It actually becomes pretty tasty. (Not the crust though, that stays bland)
Its weird though cause a pepperoni pizza should already have lots of flavour from the pepperoni, but this one for some reason didn't.
Also - the staff wasnt very friendly, they seemed annoyed to have to serve customers.
Still giving three stars because they have a great selection of imported beers and you can get your pizza to taste good by using the provided powders. Not going...
