Yamadaruma — Restaurant in Kyoto

If going to temples isnt a sufficiently spiritual experience, you're in for a treat as the culinary delight of eating here will transport you to another realm. The premium meat here is of amazing quality, all of which can literally be eaten by someone with no teeth as it simply dissolves in your mouth.

The quaint atmosphere is something you cannot replicate anywhere else. The owner is very kind and provides excellent service, delicately preparing the meats in front of you which really adds to the immersion of the experience.

The service is excellent as well. When my wife was having difficulty with the smoke from the BBQ irritating her eyes, the staff came over and offered us both clear glasses to protect our eyes (which really did help!).

If you've been apprehensive about experiencing premium Japanese wagyu due to the price you'll be delighted to know that 2 full plates of meat, 2 bibimbaps and sides along with drinks only came to 12000 yen. An absolute steal for what it is.

Quick tip, due to the rich marbling of the meat the drippings may cause large flames to come from the grill- keep an eye out on the meat as it is easy to overcook, allow for a quick sear and eat slightly earlier than what you may be used to. Also remember to salt the meat as it really brings out the flavour!

First of all i am a trained chef and a trained butcher myself so please take that in mind. Truly a gem of a restaurant located literally door to door to the hotel we where staying in, we gave this restaurant a try on our scnd day and went again a scnd time in the same weak! If you would ask me hey whats the best place to eat in Kyoto? i would take you here....Prices compared to the quality of the food are just crazy , make sure you go for big variety of cuts and or the mixed plates cause they all are Fantastic, juicy, savory, simply tasty and the higher quality cuts downright melt in your mouth like a piece of butter. All workers are super friendly and rlly nice and its sad that my japanese is just to bad to have a real chat with them ;-) I honestly and truly can say this is among the Top 5 Restaurants i visited in my 30 Years of life. Ps. go for the different plum whines they are a perfect in Companion to all BBQ...

We came by here last night and have been wanting to try Yakiniku. Was apprehensive because of the language barrier. Even with Google translate, navigating a new style of food that includes cooking it was a bit daunting. Luckily we chose the rights place. We are one Mexican and one Australian. The owner/ chef/master was super helpful and kind. The staff and waiting crew were also very helpful in assisting us choose. The beef cuts were short rib, shoulder, flank etc all with excellent marbling (no bone like in Korean bbq) The selection of Beef is vast and excellent. We will have to return to try cheek! The finished taste was beyond our hopes and we loved everything. The sauces were good as well. We also ordered a Caesar salad that was creative adaption of the original. Was great. We think the value is beyond good. We feel sad we pay twice the amount for mediocre produce in Australia, all too often.
