I would give Sumochaya NAGOMI a 4.5-star rating. The reason for not giving a full 5 stars is because when we first went for lunch, the restaurant was closed even though the website and Google said it was open. Luckily, we live close by, so we came back for dinner and found it open.
The restaurant itself is very nice and offers a cozy, welcoming atmosphere. My favorite item was the Japanese-style omelette rice, which was incredibly buttery and creamy – the best I’ve ever had! The hotpot, which is the signature dish of the restaurant, was also fantastic.
It’s worth noting that the restaurant seemed to be a bit understaffed. The owner, who is a really nice guy, was handling everything on his own. As a result, the food and orders might take a bit longer to be served. Despite this, the quality of the food made the wait worthwhile.
Overall, despite the initial inconvenience and the slow service, the dining experience at Sumochaya NAGOMI was excellent. I highly recommend it. If you’re in the area, definitely give it a try,...
Read moreEvery single dish was cooked by the amazing owner (who’s an ex sumo wrestler!) and each and every single dish was so so good!!!
From the Japanese classics (Chanko Nabe was so good that we still dream about having it, Omu Rice), to the western dishes like Fish and Chips, every dish was a stunner and we ate everything up so happily.
We had a huge group and ordered many dishes, as such the orders took a bit while to arrive - but it’s completely understandable as he was the only person in the kitchen! Service was still top notch despite the wait, and hospitality was 10/10 💯
There’s videos of the legendary wrestler Chiyonofuji playing in the background that you can watch while you wait for your food/ eat. Really good atmosphere!
Get a sake recommendation by the boss himself, they’re all really good. We had the Kikusui sake recommended by another Google review, loved it!
Such a lovely find, the only place in our trip we visited twice just to eat at. Can’t...
Read moreKind owner, delicious salt chanko nabe. You can choose between salt or soy sauce base, but 10/10 we loved the salt (shio). Two-three people for one gigantic pot, charged on a per person basis.
Ingredients include pork belly, chives, bean sprouts, giant cubes of soft tofu, and cabbage. Ground chicken is served raw on the side for you with a spoon to make into little meatballs to plop into the broth when it begins to boil. Deceivingly simple and light ingredients but it was so flavorful.
Warms up the belly and soul, filling and nutritious, perfect for colder weather. Bulk as the sumo wrestlers do. There were many other choices on the menu to choose from but we were more than stuffed with just the nabe. You can also add extra ramen or udon into the pot if you want.
Come and check it out! A perfect ending to...
