Overall, I think we waited about 15mins after opening simply due to morning rush and they were a bit short staffed. I emphasize patience and understanding here. We ordered the tamago sando and wagyu sando (didn’t get around to eating until a couple hours later) but it was VERY tasty and VERY filling imo!
To future potential customers, it can be confusing (I won’t deny my experience was), but please bear in mind that the restaurant is small and the workers are doing their best. Ordering in Japanese makes things tremendously easier for them, especially for the morning rush. At the time of this writing, here are some tips based on my experience having visited a couple weeks ago:
Dekasan is in a slim, yellow building. There are essentially 3 lines within the sidewalk. As per the small sign, two lines are separated by a retractable barrier along the west side of the shop (when you look at Google Maps). Customers planning on eating IN should line up on the innermost side (closest to the building, right of the sign). This is Line #1. Takeout line should be on the outermost part of the sidewalk, closest to the street. This is Line #2. Line #3 will be on the east side (alongside the tan/brown building), and is only relevant to takeout orders AFTER your order has been taken. No joke, line up early (but please be considerate of your surroundings)! We went to line up at least half an hour before opening and there were a few people hovering around wondering when to do so. It didn’t take long for the line to increase to wrap around the block.
This was how the process went: You’ll be greeted by an employee, who will offer you either the Japanese or English menu while you wait in line. They’ll ask you if you’re eating inside or takeout, and (if you aren’t already) designate which side of the barrier (Line 1 or 2) to wait in. Keep in mind that 1 piece is half of a sandwich, and 2 pieces is one whole sandwich. If you’re eating in, you stay in the line until you enter and it’s straightforward from there. If you’re doing takeout, you’ll order your selection, get a number, and then line up alongside the tan building next to the restaurant for “Line 3.” You’ll get called in to pay, and then line up again in that same line to wait for your food. Once you get it, don’t forget to say thanks, and you may proceed to take it with you!

Sure there is a long line for both dining in and take out on a random Tuesday. And there aren't a lot of seating (though the turnover does seem to be fairly quick). But whatever you do; make sure you come here to try the egg sandwich. Its a fluffy white egg omelette stuffed with egg salad. The omelette is so airy and light with a hint of sweetness (either from the egg or possibly added sugar) the egg salad creamy and there are even bits of fried yellow egg york (almost like a french toast component).
I also had the shrimp and avocado sandwich; this was fine. It was very messy to eat and because the shrimp is arranged on top of the sandwich (i'm assuming for aesthetics), the shrimp basically falls off after the 1st bite. So your best bet is try to fit the shrimp inside the already over stuffed sandwich. Flavor wise I definitely tasted the avocado but also a strong flavor of raw onion which i dislike. So this was only an okay sandwich for me.
Finally the steak sandwich which is apparently their most popular one. The steak was a perfect rare skirt steak (though I wish there was more of a sear on it) cut into pieces to allow for easier bites of sandwich. The marinade they used is a bit sweeter than I like, so I probably wouldn't order this the next time. However I will say due to the current exchange rslate between Yen and USD, this place is definitely a bargain. My 3 sandwiches only came to to be about $25.
So I highly recommend coming here to try that egg sandwich. If you love the 7/11 sandwiches you seen on social media, you are going to lose you mind over the egg...
Read moreThis restaurant has gone viral on social media for all the wrong reasons. The fluffy egg sandwich that is making all the rounds on socials just does not match the hype. It’s ok, but it’s not great.
The steak sandwich was actually pretty good, however the meat could be cooked just a touch longer in my opinion, and it really needs to be chopped up better…. When you bite into it, a large portion of the meat from the rest of the sandwich follows your bite, leaving you with just some bread covered in steak juice, but I will say, the flavours were nice.
The other sandwich we tried was the fried fish, and that was the true winner here…. very tasty! The breading on the fish was nice and flavorful, and the other toppings go very well with it.
Was it worth waiting over an hour to watch here…. not really.
The biggest problem with this spot is the cleanliness. With so many people in and out of this restaurant, the bathroom was a bit nasty, and storage around the whole space needs to be reconsidered. In such a tight space, it would be wise of them to make better use of what little space they have, and the wiring falling off the walls should be cleaned up as well. They also could really benefit ftom one more person in the kitchen to help the primary cook.
These guys have a decent thing going and are clearly getting lots of customers from their viral social media campaigns. They just need to clean...
