It’s a tricky one. I enjoyed my meal and the food came quickly once inside after a 45 minute wait (tables were empty when we got inside… it was just taking a long time to set them up for the next patrons and arrange payment from the previous ones). The coffee was good. But the whole system was a bit of a mess.
A couple that arrived after us asked to be seated outside and so were served before us. We weren’t made aware this was an option when we were told to put our names down on the list. When we did get to ordering, our coffee order was forgotten by the barista. When our food arrived but still no coffee and we enquired about it the barista accused the server of not telling her the order, which wasn’t true - he’d called it out to her when we gave him our orders. Why she isn’t given a receipt with the orders to follow I don’t understand as the verbal system is clearly not working. Our coffees arrived without saucers with teaspoons - we were expected to use an already dirty communal teaspoon on the table.
The flavour of my dish was nice but one poached egg was hot with a runny yolk and one was cold with the yolk entirely cooked through. I have no idea what happened there. The dried apricots were an interesting touch, but I appreciate the creativity.
It also seemed that the space was not meant for cooking as there didn’t seem to be an extractor fan and the guy at the table next to us was complaining of sore eyes from the smoke/oil as the bacon or something was cooking and we left with the smell of oil in our clothing.
There was just no sense of urgency about anything from the folk here, which I’ll be honest, was a bit irritating. Most customers were clearly tourists hoping to have a nice breakfast then move onto a day of sightseeing… not go into their day spending more time waiting than they imagined and starting off the day frustrated by the inefficiency. You could tell most of the patrons were murmuring amongst themselves about what was going on with the service. It also kind of bothers me that they’re using the Melbourne name as cafes in Melbourne are a slick affair where even if you need to put your name down at a place things move swiftly and orders are spot on.
I really do think with some changes to systems this could be an amazing cafe, so I hope these comments are taken as...

When it was our turn to come in, your employer invited other people, those who came later than us. Service, like courtesy, is your responsibility. Make your rules clear, as every other restaurants do. I’m not going to be polite with someone who deceives people.
Even though we live in Japan and have visited many restaurants it was the worst experience ever. There was a sign saying “write down your name”, but there was no clarification that you need to write it immediately when you came and that other customers can enter before you if you skip that step. I noticed this sign only after other people in line wrote their names down, bc it's just a small piece of cardboard lying on the table in front of the entrance.
Even in the cheapest ramen shops, employees stand with signs about long waiting times, go out into the street to meet visitors and provide information that may cause inconvenience, inform in advance that some food is sold out, etc. But these guys obviously interested in making more money only without caring about your comfort.
In the workers defense, they said that this was Japanese culture!!!! And “how do we know that you came first than others?!” Also added that we had to understand what was that sign for by ourselves.
This place is crawling with rude tourists who think they have the right to lecture you.
Standing there for 40 minutes in line, I noticed people waiting 30-50 minutes for their food. The waitress served dish for only one person, while others were watching their friend eat. So when they got their food eventually, the first person has already finished eating.
I have visited many countries and have never seen such attitude towards clients. This is another proof that places aimed at tourists are as inferior as possible and if you want to get a good experience and delicious food, I advise you to go where the...
Read moreWe were looking for a good flat white and found this place through Google maps. We didn’t mind waiting (party of 5) but felt that we had to wait longer than necessary. The waiters seemed inefficient with clearing tables and serving people while a long line was forming. The restaurant has a nice vibe and the waiters and chef were friendly. We ordered a tosti, 2x the muffins with avocado and poached eggs, 1x the smashed avo with extra salmon and a toast with just avo (we have a picky 5 yr old). For beverages: 3x blueberry banana milk and 2 flat whites. About the drinks: the blueberry- banana shakes were good. The flat whites were ok-ish. The milk was too hot and the coffee a bit bitter (probably ran too long). (we are coffee snobs though). About the food: it all looked very lovely. Our picky child finished her plate (avo toast) which is a big compliment (and thanks for being flexible and serving something that is not on the menu! The tosti was very tasty according to our son. The only thing not that great regarding the food: the poached eggs were well prepared but served COLD! We have eaten lots of poached eggs before, but they were never served cold. When I said something about it, they explained that they poach the eggs all in the morning and then keep them cold (to prevent them from getting harder). They do this because of the limited space in the indeed tiny kitchen. We understood the reasoning, but we would’ve appreciated a heads up on the menu or while ordering. To be fair: they tasted quite good for cold poached eggs, but we really prefer them hot. As a nice gesture all 5 of us got a banana bread on the house. Much...
