During my recent trip to Osaka, I had the pleasure of experiencing breakfast at Sakimoto Bakery Namba Main Branch, renowned for its premium shokupan (Japanese milk bread). The café opens at 9:00 AM, and I arrived early to avoid the crowd. The interior is cozy and inviting, adorned with greenery that creates a relaxing atmosphere.
I opted for the Morning Set, priced at ¥600. This set includes a thick slice of their signature shokupan, two types of jam, and a drink of your choice. You can select between two bread options: the Gokubi Natural Shokupan, which is egg and milk-free, offering a light and refreshing taste, or the Gokunama Milk Butter Shokupan, enriched with milk, cream, and honey for a richer flavor. I chose the latter, and it was delightfully soft and subtly sweet.
For the jams, there are ten varieties available. I selected the pistachio and strawberry jams. The pistachio jam was particularly unique, offering a nutty sweetness that complemented the bread perfectly. The strawberry jam provided a classic, fruity contrast. As for the drink, options include coffee, latte, black tea, or milk. I went with the latte, which was smooth and paired well with the meal. The set is served in a take-out cup, even for dine-in customers, which is convenient for those on the go.
Overall, the breakfast set at Sakimoto Bakery Namba offers excellent value for money. The quality of the bread and jams is outstanding, and the serene ambiance makes it a perfect spot to start your day in Osaka. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a delightful and affordable...
Read moreVery nice bakery and cafe.
To help with some confusion. There's a small cafe on the first floor on one side of the street that is solely for coffee. They have a bench out front you can wait for your orders, but no seating. We had an affogato and a latte, which were both very good.
Across from the cafe on the 1st FL is the to-go bakery (you can get a 100 yen discount in the bakery when you get a coffee from the lower level cafe). They had an assortment of pastries and breads. We got a couple of things for later that day, with the curry bread being a huge highlight!
Finally the main cafe is on the 2nd floor with a notebook for reservations out front. The main cafe is really nicely decorated and has a surprising amount of space inside and outside for seating. We had the pork cutlet sandwich and the THICC egg sandwich (not kidding that's the name 🤣). They came out on a really cute cutting board with a side salad (very good dressing, which I believe was Caesar dressing). The egg sandwich was good but maybe needed a bit extra to vary up either the texture or flavor (the side salt provided was okay in this sense). The star though was definitely the pork cutlet sandwich. Amazing flavor, perfectly crispy and juicy on the inside and the bread was soft enough to absorb the juices without getting soggy. We had to return another day just to get our own order as we had split both sandwiches the first time, and that wasn't enough 😂. Highly recommended if you're in the Namba area and want some...
Read moreI had a late lunch at Sakimoto and breakfast on another day. Lunch was an omelette sandwich with a hojicha latte. Breakfast was french toast with black coffee, and a slice of Sakimoto’s famous toasted milk butter shokupan with three types of “jam” (more like a paste). I also bought the truffle oil bun and a slice of the almond raisin bread. The highlight was the omelette sandwich - the omelette was large and very smooth, coupled with some cream spread and the bread, was a winning combination. The hojicha latte was not too sweet and had a good amount of hojicha inside. The almond raisin bread is another excellent product. Dusted with some icing sugar on top with plenty of sliced almonds, the raisin bread had raisins integrated with the bread (so one doesn’t see whole raisins) and didn’t taste like a conventional raisin bread. The french toast was alright - perhaps close competition with the HK version. As for the toast, it probably wasn’t worth the calorie intake, though the “jams” were interesting - the pistachio flavour was the best one out of the three I had. Lastly, the truffle butter roll is good when slightly warmed up. Black coffee is a typical Japanese style coffee - not strong at all. Although one places the orders through a QR code, service is great - very prompt and polite. With free wifi, Sakimoto is a good pitstop on the way to...
