This is one of the highly rated Unagi Rice Box shop in Ginza at affordable price with a casual dining setting (the highest rated is like RM500+ per pax, fine dining).
No one speaks English, but they tried their best to cater to us. They do not take reservations, so you better go during off peak hours like before 6.30 PM for dinner.
The Unagi only have a hint of sweetness (Malaysia Unagi is extremely sweet compared to this). I am surprised at how good the rice is : soft, crunchy, fragrant, sweet, not starchy and taste good.
The eel is tender and soft. So soft that it breaks apart when you try to pick it up, at the same time has a muscle feel and it isnt mushy. It has an open fire smoky flavor and texture.
The Tempura Rice Bowl is good. Similar to the Unagi Rice, it has a hint of sweetly (not over powering). The shrimp is large, heavy and crispy.
We specially ordered a portion of miso, and the miso is "super thick", packed with a lot of soy taste and ingredients and not overly salty. Like they stuff a ton of miso or soy into it.
All orders complimentary with starter pickle,...
Read moreI have been to Japan around eight times and have always been very satisfied with the service—until this experience. I went out for a casual meal with my two kids, and during the meal, one of them accidentally knocked over a glass of water. We apologized immediately. However, one of the staff members, an elderly waitress, reacted with a very unpleasant expression and an impatient attitude. Throughout the meal, she stood next to our table holding dishes without saying a word, leaving us to serve ourselves.
What was even more frustrating was that, before the official cutoff time for ordering, she told us we couldn’t add any more dishes. Yet, 30 minutes later, another staff member came over and asked if we wanted to order more as the cutoff time was approaching.
If I could go back to that moment, I would have filed a formal complaint against this waitress and demanded an apology. This behavior was unacceptable and far below the standard of service I have come to expect in Japan.

Read moreI live near Ginza and pass by this Unagi restaurant many times throughout the year promising myself to at least try this place as it often has a line out the door. I tried late January 2019....
I think for the average Joe Suzuki who doesnt eat unagi that much, or foreign person, this place is pretty good. It is certainly not a 5 star unagi restaurant. I think I have had better una-juu (うな重) at Naritas unagi restaurant and in the B2 of Otemachi Bldg. I am not saying this place is bad, but it is just not extra-ordinary.
Keep in mind, I have had the super unagi meals in late summer in Shizuoka (Hamamatsu) and one of my favorite places called Ishibashi near Iidabashi. So I am a bit spoiled. You get this way for living in a different country for over 2 decades.
If you are jones-ing for unagi and are close to all the stores in Ginza, and then dont mind waiting 15-30 minutes, then go to this place. Small tip, try to go around 1 after they open as that is the time customers will be recycling finishing up and recycling open...
