My wife and I were in Tokyo for only 2 days and wanted an omakase experience . The concierge at the Hotel Imperial tried 2 other places but they were already booked. Our choice was sushi nigri for 15,000 yen or sushi with appetizers for 25,000 yen . We chose sushi nigri and drank green tea and water. We arrived 5 minutes early after walking around the block a few times and the counter was already filled with people eating except for our 2 spots. Most of the clients appeared Asian. Our chef was cordial and gave us one word descriptions of our dishes. Clam, snapper, bonita, bluefin tuna, medium fatty bluefin tuna, eel, uni, shrimp, sardine and miso soup. The asian clients had different quality fish than ours with their tuna being extremely fatty compared to ours and their uni was different also. Perhaps they got the 25,000 yen meal? The entire experience lasted one hour. An 18% service charge was tacked on bringing the final bill to 36,000 yen. Not a bill for the feint of heart. Would I return....not on your life. Would I give up on omakase....no way. I will need to try a few more high end dining experiences elsewhere as this place left me...
Read moreThe worst-for-money sushi meal I had in Japan. After reading the mixed reviews, I wonder how those “disappointing” ones could happen in such a famous sushi restaurant. But unfortunately I turned out to be very disappointed too...I had to have a second meal immediately afterwards in order to get satisfied! I can’t help but write my first public review, ever. The shop and the atmosphere itself was good, as normal as those popular restaurants. Chef Aoki was serving some locals, while I was served by the young chef who spoke good English with excellent manners. No complaint about him. It’s the food. I had an omakase meal at ¥16,200 (incl. tax) for 11 small sushi, one miso soup, and free supply of ginger and green tea. That’s it. The issue is the sushi were not impressive at all. Very mediocre. Can hardly rated as star food. It took me merely 30 mins from being seated to paying the bill. Maybe the ¥25,000 omakase menu would give you a different experience. But I would not, definitely, spend my money there...
Read moreThere seems to be some polarizing reviews about this place, our experience s fell into the "AMAZING" category. This was a memorable for life, super special experience for me. The space has a feeling of warmth thanks to all the wood panelling. Our chef was really patient, kind, thoughtful and overall really warm and welcoming. We loved watching how carefully he prepared our meals and the fish itself was perfection. It was just such an artistic and delicious experience.
No, we weren't stuffed to the gills after but it's fine cuisine and each piece of food was effing beautiful. I feel like the expectation of being super full after this type of meal is kinda strange, just go grab a sandwich or ramen after if you want to top...
