MAR 2024

There were plenty of seats when I went in the late afternoon. Ordered several dishes which included sliced duck meat, shrimp kakiage, seiro soba, chawanmushi, and red bean manju. The duck meat was lean but tender, quite pricey for three slices. Shrimp kakiage appears to hold it's shape from the soft batter filling, topped with crispy tempura flakes; this is probably best eaten in a hot broth. Soba was good but the portion was small; sobayu was provided after to finish the remaining soba dipping sauce. For the chawanmushi, the staff will check to see if you are ok to wait as it takes more time to prepare compared to other dishes (about 20 minutes for me). The chawanmushi has conger eel, ginkgo nuts, shrimp, duck meatball and at the bottom some udon noodles which I didn't expect; it was tasty and hearty. Overall the food and service was pretty good; the staffs...

Exquisite interior, really tastefully done. There is table dining, or tatami, and both are viable choices. The service is very attentive and discreet.

And then, of course... the delicious food! You'll be hard pressed to find a better soba restaurant in the area. The tsuyu is very delicate and understated, the noodles are wonderful. I had the Tempura Soba and the tempura was truly fantastic, amazing batter. My partner took a side of sliced duck meat, and while the portions are quite small for what you pay, the taste and quality more than make up for it.

If you're not fussed about setting or delicate taste, then you'd probably find cheaper and more food for your buck somewhere else. But for a great culinary experience, I definitely...

Lovely place I had the pleasure of discovering! The staff were very nice, welcoming and helpful, even though we don't speak Japanese at all.

There was a line when we got there but we waited maybe 5 minutes. The service is pretty fast but you don't feel rushed. The decor is really nice. It was giving zen vibes.

They do have an English menu (with pictures too and explanations for certain words, which helped a lot) They even explain the history of the restaurant. The food was really good. I knocked a star off because the portions are pretty small. But it was tasty and I enjoyed it. Very refreshing.

Overall had a good experience and I really appreciated the staff! Would recommend if you're...

Serving soba since 1880, Kanda Yabu Soba deserves its reputation as one of Tokyo’s best. It can get packed so when we visited we made sure we turned up at an ‘inbetween time’ and walked straight in. The menu is simple, most dishes are soba based (of course) but the sole udon dish was sublime (and had a lovely touch of theatre). We also rated the sliced duck breast and the yuba (soy milk skin). The soba isn’t the cheapest in town but you’re paying for history, attention to detail and truly wonderful soba. Must visit. PS. The photo is peering into the kitchen.
