Marugoto Vegan Dining Asakusa — Restaurant in Tokyo

We visited this restaurant for dinner and ordered one main dish and one side. Before placing our order, the staff informed us of a policy requiring each guest to order at least one meal and one drink, along with an additional charge for a daily appetizer. While we appreciated being told in advance, we were still surprised by the policy itself, as we've never encountered anything like it anywhere else in the world. It seemed clear that the owner is aiming to ensure a specific profit per customer, which might be acceptable if the food quality, portion size, and overall dining experience were worth it.

Unfortunately, they weren’t. The portions were small, the food was overly salty—including the appetizer, which was especially so—and the entire dining area was filled with strong cooking fumes, which detracted from the atmosphere. Despite spending 5500, we left feeling unsatisfied and still hungry.

The only real positive was the friendly service and warm welcome, which we did appreciate. But since we came primarily for the food, the overall experience was disappointing. We won’t be returning, and unfortunately, we can’t recommend this...

Overpriced for the small amount of food you get, and there is nothing particularly elaborate or difficult to make on the lunch plate. The rice portion is laughably tiny, the curry was good but watery with very few veggies. Even the coffee was disappointing. I ordered coconut/almond milk and got the tiniest amount of thin, nearly flavourless milk with no trace of coconut.

Service-wise it was fine, although I found it quite annoying that a girl who speaks perfectly good English insisted on addressing tourists in Japanese. This holier-than-thou attitude was extremely off-putting in my opinion.

Also, I don’t think it’s acceptable to push ideologies onto customers, which this restaurant seems intent on doing.

The only positive thing I can say about it is that it’s in an excellent location, and the smell of coconut oil is absolutely wonderful. Some claim it smells rancid, but it doesn’t–I use it frequently and know...

We were really touched by this amazing place, this is truth 😊 The atmosphere is truly magical as it has such warm, peaceful vibrations. The staff are all incredibly kind and super friendly. It's so clear that they really love what they are putting into this world ❤️ Lastly, the food was absolutely amazing! I had the lunch set and the curry was by far the best I have tasted in the almost 2 years that I have been living in Japan! We are already looking forward to going back and having some more!
