Asakusa Unatetsu – Asakusa Ekimae Main Store (Just 1 minute walk from Asakusa Station)
📍 “Energy comes from eel, and eel brings energy!” – A Must-Visit Spot in Asakusa
This time, we enjoyed: • Asakusa Hitsumabushi (one whole eel in a single wooden tub) • Unajū Matsu (Deluxe Grilled Eel over Rice) • Lightly Seared Eel (small portion) • Eel Skewer Set (Kabuto, Hire, Kimo, and Tanshaku)
The eel, perfectly steamed and grilled, is so tender it practically melts in your mouth. The hitsumabushi, with its fragrant char and rich sauce blending into the rice, is pure bliss! The eel skewers, made with rare cuts, offer a whole new depth of flavor and texture to savor.

3 Ways to Enjoy Hitsumabushi
1️⃣ As is – Savor the perfect harmony of sauce, eel, and rice in its purest form. 2️⃣ With condiments – Add green onions or wasabi for a refreshing, aromatic twist. 3️⃣ Ochazuke style – Pour hot dashi broth over it to enjoy a luxurious rice soup.

Read moreWe asked for tea for 3 times in English and the staff forgot to serve us or doesn’t understand what we said. She even stopped my friend from pouring the spices from the bottle provided on the table on his unagi don by grabbing the bottle from his hand right away. I do not understand why the staff has to decide the way we eat and what’s the point to put the spices on the table while we are not allowed to use it. She could have politely explained to us the proper way to consume the dishes we ordered instead. She also forgot to give us unagi sauce which we requested. We asked for another glass of iced water and she doesn’t understand at all. She was trying to play with the baby next table and making the baby screams a few times. This has seriously affected the comfort of other customers. This is our second time coming here and we really like the food there. Disappointed with the way we...

This place is a perfect example of Japan’s fake courtesy masking arrogance. Staff act polite on the surface, but you constantly feel like you’re being watched and judged for every move – even going to the bathroom feels like a crime. I was told I had to take my trash with me – what, you think I won’t come back?
The eel rice? Disgusting. Over-salted, dry, and nowhere near worth the outrageous price. ¥4000–5000 for what? A pathetic, salty mess served with an attitude.
Dining here was stressful from start to finish. Too many unnecessary rules. No warmth, no hospitality – just stiff manners pretending to be service.
Terrible food. Terrible atmosphere. Absurd price....
